i had this yote today in a 5/64th kill snare. there were several saplings about wrist thickness for entanglement, and the yote had wrapped around a couple of them. yet it was still alive when i got there, and acted very weak. this snare was checked daily. here's my question. based on your experience with yotes and what you see in the pic. is the fur damage from the yote fighting the snare for a MAXIMUM of 24 hours, or is that mange? this is the 3rd yote i've snared from this area, and 2 have had fur dmg. everyone thought the other one had fur mites or something (no guard hair over shoulders). i just want to make sure that i'm not causing this damage to the fur by my snares, and i've NOT got alot of experience with yotes. thank you for any help. thanks Charles,
you're one of the guys i was hoping to hear from and if it'll help reduce the incidence of it in the overall population by me spending a year catching the mangy ones, then yes, it is pretty.....

mangey yotes often dont dispatch in snares, but then often do at trap set for no real good reason at all.

mange. you put it out of its misery. throw it in a hole and bury to stop the spread of the disease.

ya think maybe they are too weak to self-dispatch in a snare?
