Raining again. There's already a crust on the snow outside so that's going to change up the trapline. Lynx traps are likely freezing up right now.

Those two weather observations sounds like my whole season. Freeze and thaw is standard business in my parts.

Been another warm winter out here the coldest temp so far has been just -4

We have rain again now.

On the bright side,my bees are alive and well in the two big hives I can hear them buzzing. Wolves came in and checked them out the other day.

With these temps the bees can eat more than normal as well as break cluster. Keep your fingers crossed and be prepared to feed them early.

They had at least a full deep of honey and I fed all through fall, and put a XL sugar block on as well. I will feed soon as I can again for sure.

Looks old, had a lynx come right into a friends dog yard years ago in the middle of the village, pretty exciting till it was shot.

Could be,I have a lot of them that hang around the house. This one I could hear barking a lot walking around the dogs the night before. Could be love sick

Built a new Blackfish trap the other day. This one will catch rats pretty good too.

Here is a Burbot trap sitting on the beach. I think I counted 12 funnel openings in this trap. Very few left anymore and these will be a thing of the past soon.

So do they bait the lush/burbot trap, or do they just swim in like other fish traps?

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

No bait. They usually set along the bank, and build a fence of poles set in the ice on the outside like wings to funnel them in.

Time for another vid, Jeff! Setting the blackfish trap. Won't that trap catch mink if you set it in the right place?

When mink was king here on the Y-K delta, they used those Taluyuks for both mink and bigger ones for otter. They work great.
I did a BF video already check it out if you haven't.

I have a video somewhere of Johnny Sheppards crew in Mt Village setting a trap. Pulled up over 400 burbot in it.

Now that is a lot of good eating there Len!

Our ice here is finally looking good and with our cold weather showing up it is helping. Holes in the ice here soon I'd imagine smile.

I changed out my sugar brick in two of my hives, they are both still very much alive and both put out a pretty good roar. A few of the hard core guard bees flew out at me.

This is what the inside of a hive looks like at -10.

I see they still have some capped honey left.

How do you make the sugar brick? Is the hay or grass just on top of the sugar brick for insulation?
Glad there doing good
