I have an excess of slim lock snare locks and was wondering if they could be set up on a drowning cable.
I have never set a drowning cable before, just curious.

You could but the attachment to the trap would be a bit complicated. Id use a trap swivel before any snare lock.

Well I have an excess of swivels too so I guess I’ll just stick with them.

I'm guessing you have 3/32" snare locks. In "NEWT'S WORLD" 3/32" cable for drowners dont hold up well.
The universail swivel body would be a better choice. Because they would work on 1/8" cable. Which is FAR better cable for drowners.

I would make my own locks out of some flat stock. In my opinion snare locks and swivels don't give you a positive lock up like a regular lock does. That 2" to 3" arm gives you a lot more mechanical advantage. And Is more trapper friendly when It comes to hooking them up to your trap.

Not the locks you asked about, but Biter Cam Locks are excellent drowner Locks. They’re the only Locks I use for beaver sized drowner cables anymore

For the small stuff like mink and coon I just use the swivel on the end of my trap chain on the cable

I use biter cams as well, and have been very pleased.

I have used the large washer lock and drilled out bigger holes for the cable

I used trap swivels for drowner locks and 3/32 cable for beaver this past season and had no problems with this set up.

Why is that Newt?
I’d imagine the same cable which holds a yote could hold a beaver until it drowns.

While 3/32 cable will do the job,1/8 inch lasts longer . 3/32 will get twisted up and need replacememnt, long before 1/8.

I use a bunch on land here Forest and the 3/32 can be problematic for me on land with canines. Ive tried a bunch of lock styles and theyll back up pretty much any of them on 3/32. You have to use a tangle/kill pole where you want to keep them.

Ive had beaver back traditional L shaped drowner locks and universal locks (swivels) off 3/32 and make it to shore. That just doesnt seem to happen with the 1/8. Just my two cents.
