Here is a fellow who has done his homework. Your "highest 35 years" base, is realized annually. If one of your "highest 35 years" occurs when you're 72, it increased your benefit thereforth. It does not stop at 70.

I have read that the average recipient gets more from SS than he or she ever paid in, probably in the first 10 years. Someday here will probably have the stats.

I note here that "live for today" attitudes rule the roost. That is EXACTLY why SSI takes money away from the worker before they "live for today" it down the toilet. That keeps them from being on welfare to which they have not contributed. God knows there's enough of that going on. Earlier someone suggest that if each tax payer would invest his own SSI-type savings, he would be better off.

I don't disagree with that. But exactly how many people have the wherewithall to do that?

Look right here, these folks are slobberin' at the bit to get at that money just as quick as they can. (Now try to tell me were not evolved from apes.)

If you saved, you can live for today and not worry about the extra couple hundred dollars down the road.

That is my understanding. But if you have saved, you have not lived for today. Which is it?

How do I know your new-found spendthrift attitude won't leave me with the burden of taking care of you in your old age.

Who says i'll live to an old age?

Work away friend, your not hurting me one bit. I can afford to enjoy life now without banking on being able to when i'm in my 80's.

Yep..I like it. The system actually gives one that qualify's for Social Security Benefits the option of

1) working and recieving
2) not working and retire
3) giving all qualified the option of the draw any time over an 8 year span

Did I miss one?

The wife worked at a nursing home. You'd be amazed how many folks are there in their 60's.

On another note..................

Don't worry. You should be able to change your own diaper well up into your 80's.

I'm a firm believer that my work has contributed to my overall health. I have no reason to believe there is a magic age when that will change.

Plenty of time for recreational activities
and not worried about getting my fair share or more of SS benefits.

Somebody has to pay the tab for the early retirees that live past average age.

You're welcome.

Did I not esplain why social security is a terrible program? What don't you understand? If I spend money 40 years ago I will benefit approximately three times what I will benefit from the same money now. It is terrible because the money they steal is not inflation proofed. I would be far better off spending 40 year old money 40,years ago on anything other than having the government give it back to me at 1/3 it's spending power. Why is it you people feel the need to protect everybody from themselves? Are you one of the irresponsible people that is incapable of providing for your own future without a retarded Government program?

Hey Dirt, some of them will never get it. I'm collecting and still working, because I like to spend money. I just went through the numbers and discovered that my benefit is being calculated with my 2014 and older income. If they were including my 2015, 2016 & 2017 income I'd get about $150 more per month.
