Horse, cat and beaver. In that order. If I was to use fish It would be crap.

Mouse. Every predator eats mice almost every single day 365 a year. For many it is a staple or the staple. And the scent of fresh mouse is stronger than the scent of any other meat (I'm talking the regular flesh, not gland areas of skunk, weasel, etc), no need for aging. Also, mice are easy, free, and legal to collect in large quantities during most months of year.
Beav: crap or carp? or are they the same thing LOL Same thing LOL I'm not a big fan of rabbit for bait. It really doesn't have much of a odor. Now mouse urine soaked mouse nests are ten times better then the actual mouse It's self. And If you cage up a bunch of mice they just keep on giving day after day.

But back to the OP’s question , I’m not sure after watching Robert Waddells demo this past weekend that I would get in a hurry about adding any bait solutions . If I understood him correctly he is a believer in fresh natural baits ! I don't know what he said in his demo, but I can tell you by the numerous testimonials I've gotten from trappers using my bait solution, it definitely enhances any red meat bait. I sell hundreds of pints of it, and an awful lot of it to repeat customers.

I’m talking about wild mice . They have taken over both of my duck blinds and in the fall they move into my barn.
But back to the OP’s question , I’m not sure after watching Robert Waddells demo this past weekend that I would get in a hurry about adding any bait solutions . If I understood him correctly he is a believer in fresh natural baits ! I know I am, I don't taint or add anything. When it gets real cold I will drop a pea sized glob of Predator Plus or Widowmaker down the hole with the chunked red meat. I have two gallon sized freezer bags full of wild field mouse nests/bedding from my sheds and barn, plus about 20+ fresh frozen mice. Can't what for November! Be the first time I've used either.

I have gone as far as putting a live mouse In a baby food jar. Punched a few holes In the lid put a slice of apple In the jar and placed It In a dirt hole. Did I catch some fox ? I did but the mouse nest Is a lot easier. I'm beginning to wonder If that live mouse deal might work In pocket set for mink.

Not saying bait solutions don't work. But aren't you creating a lure when you add the solution to the meat. I'm of the opinion that lure and baits are a separate thing and used In different applications at the set.

Yepper, it is actually a food based lure, but it's still called a bait. I could see where using something different than everyone else would be an advantage.

Beav that's exactly what one of the makers told me. I think he was implying that I use too much. I do use a lot of bait when I use it, in late season.
As far as sauce or not, I make some of each for myself. And been known to stretch the solution.

What about beef? I have oxtail, neck and other parts that family doesn't eat. Was thinking just use it with solution. . That’ll work fine.

Try some liver, seriously. Add plain salt to keep it from freezing. Use it it very cold weather. Even you will be able to smell it's unique odor when approaching the set. It envokes a very unique response in predators. Does it matter if it's deer, beef, or pork liver ? -Thanks

When coyotes make a kill, the first meat they eat is the internal orgins. Liver, lungs, Kidneys. Then the hind quarters. Same when you put out beaver carcasses..

Beaver carcasses get ripped open and the liver/lungs/kidneys gets eaten first. Then they move it and slowly consume the rest. With small game I couldn't tell ya. I suspect its gone in one gulp..

I use Deer Dust. It's the fine stuff that comes off the band saw (like saw dust to wood saw). The deer processors throws Deer Dust in the garbage can. It's free, I don't have to gut, chop or cube, no grinning, it's ready to use fresh or be mixed with other ingredients, no mess, no waste. It very fine and I can smear it in dirthole and canine has to work to get every morsel. No hooking with toe nail and pulling bait chunk from dirthole. It's Paste-like. It's FREE from the local Deer Processor.
I stopped the messy, time consuming chopping, slicing, grinning of bait many years ago when I saw a deer processor push deer dust off his band saw table into the garbage can. That's when a light bulb appeared over my head and realized the benefits of Deer Dust. Our state, it's legal to use deer.

This is good info. Love hearing 1st hand experience. So you've seen this for beaver, and also deer? How bout small prey like rabbit, mice, squirrel, etc, if the whole animal isn't consumed then what is eaten, and what's not? Thanks! [/quote]
Mice are swallowed whole. Bids, rabbits and most other small critters are ate head first. Brains would fall into the same category as liver, heart and organs. Opening up a coyote stomach will tell you a lot of times what there feeding on and stomach content isn't a bad bait either. I opened up one the other day that had 9 whole mice in his stomach.

Would tainted hamburger(beef) work for bait? or would you mix in other stuff to make a paste bait?

I used to open up every red fox years ago, one had 25 short tail voles in it's stomach, all whole. Old boy was as fat as a beagle. I used stomach contents alot on early season pups back then. I tried to stabalize the contents, never did figure out how.
There's a lot to learn from studying scat and stomach contents.

I have access to an almost unlimited supply of sheep carcasses...
Should I be utilizing that for bait?

andy your the man!! opening up a yotes gut. im inquisitive but I draw the line on that one. I can see your point on the regurgitaded food thought though. There wouldn't be a yote on this planet that hasn't had a good exspirience with that smell! Have you tested your theory on mature dogs? I can see it being devastating to the pup crop.
