Lucky you.
I got rear ended while stopped at a light in a small town in Minnesota last week. The lady was a local and had significant damage to her front end, although still driveable. My truck had a bent bumper and slightly pushed in quarter panel.
We pulled off to the side and started exchanging info. Along comes some slick sleeved county deputy. He says it is a state highway so must be handled the the State Patrol. I suggested we finish exchanging info, he could do a report if he wanted, and we could go on our way. You'd think I had called his mother a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). He went on a rampage about me arguing with him. Next thing his sergeant shows up. They do absolutely nothing. No small talk no checking licenses. They just stood there looking important while waiting for the State Patrol to show up. After a half hour delay they tell the bear what happened, and take off.
Papa bear takes our info, writes a quick report, gives the two of us a sheet containing both of our info and a blank report to file. So danged near an hour for something that could have been handled two levels down in a couple minutes.
So, luck of the draw. Some are efficient, some are just there for harassment.

Really... what is the law up there? Do you have to tell the cops you have a weapon?
Here in Arizona you don't have to say anything unless they ask. It makes more sense to have the officer ask you rather than yelling out the window "hey I have a gun". I am pretty sure that would put any rookie on high alert... the last thing you want is to have Barney go onto fight or flight mode. I've had one go into fight or flight mode on me as I was asking him a simple question. I had my nine year old daughter with me at Quick trip. I forgot to say I open carry, anyway as soon as his face turned beat red, I said never mind and walked away from him. I wish I had gotten his name, he needs more training before he hurts someone. The law up here says. When a officer approaches you, you tell him "I have a CPL, and I am carrying". If you just give the officer your liscence and registration and he goes to his car and runs you, and the computer says you have a CPL And you ARE CARRYING. you will be charged and risk loosing your CPL. I think it's a fine the first time and a fine and loss of CPL second time. So yes. You tell them your carrying. But not "I have a gun". It's "officer I have a CPL, and I am carrying" He will ask where the gun is and if you can get your papers without reach toward the gun In my case the answer was "no, the gun is on my side and my wallet is right by it". He just took a diffe t position to stand in, up his light on my hand and said "go ahead and get your wallet" Simple and done

That's a strange law to have to inform the officer you have a license and are carrying. I'm not suggesting a person lie, but to be required to inform the officer even if they don't ask...surprising.

That's a strange law to have to inform the officer you have a license and are carrying. I don't even remember the requirement here, in MN. But, since I am always carrying, I simply automatically hand the officer the three documents that are always together in my wallet: - Driver's license
- insurance card
- CCW
I don't say a word, other than pleasant greeting. Usually, I'm asked if I'm carrying and where. Since I've already produced the required documentation, there's no longer a need to reach for anything. From that point on it's hands in sight on the steering wheel or if requested on the dash. In this last incident I mentioned, the full grown bear just handed it back and went about his business. The county mountys didn't ask for anything so I showed them nothing.

Respect when mutual is key
Boot licking to negate fear , or to prevent assault up to and including death should be unacceptable
And yet so many are fine with it .

We are required to declare if we are carrying. Never been a problem for me.

There is a list of states that you need to inform a officer and the ones you do not only if ask.For a out of state person in another state and have your CCW you need to know the state laws that you are in. As for being pull over. I all the years I drive and pull over.I did meet some that need to show they are a officer.Mainly the rest was not giver you hard time Some had help me also.So I know times have change so know your laws and go from there wit the state you are in if it is not your home state and even then you need to know the CCW laws of the state not on a forum.

Not amused.
I have been beaten by cops and seen the blue wall of silence in action. All stemming from my witnessing a case of police brutality and agreeing testify. So all cops are bad then No but this is just a stupid thread. No need to preach to the forum like we're a bunch of morons all the while applauding your own tact and good headedness.

Definitely some good guys out there who chose law enforcement as a career . Most do a good job and have the ability to reason
Unfortunately there are many more jack wad tough guys out there with zero ability to handle anything corectly

I haven’t been pulled over in years. Last fall I worked my part time job, went to partner’s house to scrape hides for a couple hours, changed back into my better work clothes and drove home. It was sleeting and raining. I couldn’t see the dotted center line very well so I was hugging the right edge white line. Guess I was weaving a little. The cop was nice. He asked for license, registration, and proof of insurance. I also gave him my carry permit and said the pistol was loaded but in the case. He asked if I’d been drinking, which I said “no”. I told him I was tired and couldn’t see the center line markings so I was holding to the right edge line. I’ve had no priors. I KNOW he didn’t do a computer check because I had a carry card. When I gave it to him he simply gave it back.
During my concealed carry class the instructor said a traffic stop when you offer a concealed carry card would take 45-minutes because the officer would do a national search to see if you’d done anything illegal after getting the card. This officer had bigger problems than me so he didn’t check. Wearing clean clothes and no scruffy facial hair may have played a part, too.
Never too old to learn
