I'm not complaining but as I put out the rat line I have yet to see another Trapper or trap. I know prices are low but there are usually a few out setting on opening day. Well, I will finish my PPJ sandwich and make more sets. How about where you are?

I set about 8 traps in a small creek but where I already had land sets out where caught a nice female coon and now have about 2 dozen sets out.

My buddy and I set most of my marsh today. There Is about 2 acres of public marsh and there has to be 30 rat huts on the public part. WE didn't get stated until about 9:pm and we never saw any one over there so we got It set.

It was tough going the boat I used today has the rowing seat to far forward and all the rat debris builds up In front and It gets so bad you can't row.
My 8'10" boat is a bit small for 2 of us and our gear so I used the 12 footer. In some places my 6' stakes were just showing above the water line. Setting out of the boat Is tough but we got It done. But we could wade most of the edges so that wasn't to bad.
WE will set more traps tomorrow us old guys had just had to take a breach after 4 hours. LOL But we got In about 60 sets.

4 hours is about right. Took an extended lunch break. Tomorrow will be a little easier...private land. I don't have a boat so sometimes it's tough going. I like the cooler weather.

I'm just a part time trapper (pharmacist most days)so I'm not out as much as some, but i didn't see a single other person trapping last year where I'm at. I heard people talking about it a little, but that's it.

I was out today too. Didn't see as much rat sign as I usually do in locations where there have been rats before.

Guess I will see what tomorrow holds in the traps.

I thought you would practice what you preach? Wait until the fur is prime.

There is what the Beav says, and there is what the Beav does. Never the twain shall meet.

Kiss My butt.

Prime? You 2 don't have a clue. I have never advocated a late opening for rats. I want to take numbers and that happens during soft water times. I can take 100 close to prime In a few days and you 2 clowns are going to wait till Dec and catch half that number. Read the numbers on the check boys. It's funny how those rats I caught In ND In Oct averaged $7.00 explain that.

Besides next week end I'm going to start trapping those $99.00 coyotes eat your hearts out. Then when I get done doing that job I'll get back to some other private ground rats.
What were you 2 clowns doing today? LOL

I was recovering from a little hangover. Then went fishing.

But be sure to let us know about the $2 avg. you get from Guy on these Oct. rats you’re about to get.

Are those rats going to bring more In Dec? I'm betting they are still around $2.00.
But I'm going to trap them because that's what I do. And I'm turning the big 80 In May so my time In the marsh Is limited.

Beav get them when you can. Some places it just doesn't work when the water gets hard. I trap the early rats in places I cannot get to in the winter. Rats now really don't bring much less then they do in Dec. unless the fur market changes.

Beaves right on the rats. Almost all of my rats last year went right in with the winter rats pile. Even the ones caught opening day.

I also went through more ice with my boat last year than open water. You never know how many days of open water rat trapping we are going to get.

Rats aren't coon.

Yup. My December catch ratio goes way down compared to now. Plus every year I dislike chopping holes in the ice more and more. The way my terrain is I trap mink and rats after deer season on open spring fed trout streams. It's a little further to drive. Not as many rats there but they are a little bigger by then.Who knows, maybe they will bring $2.50 by then. I'm in a little better shape by then too or just not as sore.
