I have caught just about everything but a muskrat. This year i would like to specifically targets some skrats. I have a few questions for you veteran muskrat trappers. I have found several drainage tiles that range fro 4 foot wide to about the size of a 110. I am going to be target them with mostly 1.5s and 110's. If i am not seeing any sign does that mean no muskrats use the area also will a muskrat use a tiny water way only 6" acrossed? Any other tips for trapping muskrats specifically would be appreciated. Thanks

Just because no sign, doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t present. Set it up and give them a few nights to see what happens. And yes, they will travel within those tiny seeps. Good luck

I wouldn't set In the tiles with 1 1/2s I would make sets at the corners of those tiles. The rats will be trailing along banks and your odds will be better setting the edges.
Dig some pockets and have no more then 1" of water over your trap pan.
You could also place 110s tight to the banks and leave about 2" of the trap above the water line. With the triggers under water.

Good luck.

On small streams for mink and muskrats a very effective BG trap set is a 3-4 foot culvert box. No bait or lure is used. Placed in small feeder streams and it will take any rat or mink travelling the stream as it seems they cannot pass up exploring the tunnel. They also make good small stream snowmobile bridge abutments while at the same time targeting mink and rats.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

If your not finding the holes them I would also try bottom edge sets. Muskrat are always moving they may likely move through one.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?
