Since everyone has lately been preying of the Beav’s low self-esteem, I thought I would give him a shout-out in an attempt to build back his self-confidence. I made some Muskrat Paste from his recipe, trapping a new area with a creek with no muskrat sign, I made (3) pocket sets with the peppermint paste- 3 rats this morning.

The Beav said-
“Good old lard out of the grocery store. Crisco doesn't work.

Heat lard stir In oil turn off heat and keep stirring till cool. I use this combo with peppermint oil. It's a real rat killer.
Water proof and smear able.”

Maybe I should have used some. Made 58 sets the other day and on the first check I caught 9 rats.

I also found that the old beav can't push his old butt through the marsh any more.

Glad to see you post again Beav. I was gonna send a search and rescue crew out to the marsh. Thought maybe you went over your waders or something.

Ya must be losing your mojo with the rats, eh?

Beav – I hate to spread rumors but I heard Muskrat offered her 3 flats of strawberries – he got in there at midnight and out with a bunch of rats. I also made up some with Anise Oil and have been topping my DP’s off with that, the peppermint would probably also work for early sweet tooth coon.

Our puter has a virus and It's down. And I'm on this postage stamp I pad or what ever you call It. So I'm going to be gone fora while.

i'm not to worried about the rat. He's just sitting by the rail road tracks waiting to get arrested.

Go down to the store and buy a pound of Lard. Heat It till It's a liquid then add about 2 Oz of Peppermint oil to the lard turn off the heat and stir till It firms up. If you don't stir the oil will settle out and you won't get a good consistency.

Another thing you might try Is use Poplar bud oil instead of peppermint oil. I haven't used It In lard but I used It straight on rat sets and It's a killer. Well It worked In ND.

Awsome! Thx beave, I'm gonna give it a go. Not sure where to find the poplar bud oil, but I'll check on amazon, they have everything. Lol

Does peppermint extract work? I saw some in the grocery store today but it has alcohol and water in it too.

Or does the peppermint oil work better?

I have only used peppermint oil.
I have never put the poplar bud oi In lard. The poplar bud oil Isn't all that strong so the lard may just cover up the odor.
Let us know how It works out for you.

I use something similar (lard and extract) but I also add an egg which acts as an emulsifier.
