Beav, Could you use petroleum jelly instead of lard or is there something in the lard that helps the scent? S/F

I've used Crisco, seems to work okay. I think the white would show up better than the green vaseline.

The lard firms up a lot better then Crisco.

I never tried Vaseline so I can't comment on that. But the rat Is right about the white color of the lard. It does have great eye appeal. Maybe not so much on a bridge wall but On the side of a rat hut It does.

Did some experimenting last week, I wire tied a small piece of 1/2 tube above my carrot on Sudden Valley rat sets and filled it with paste- it seemed to help my catch rate.
The best part of this bait is you can actually enjoy the smell of your fingers after you're done making it.

That's why the Beav goes through so much of it. Always licking his fingers after each set. Freshens up his breath too, he claims.

Kept him and Pam together all of these years. Otherwise she certainly wouldn’t have been able to tolerate him this long.

Do you think.... A guy could put some of that lard on a cotton ball and put that on the sudden valley clip? Would that get em in?

The kind the Beav uses comes with a string for easy attachment. Don't need a Sudden Valley clip.

Full Disclosure- I used them 2 weeks this month but I'm frugal so I cut them in half.
Muskrat,
You also gave away the source for my 1/2" tubing.
