About the muskrats - "special circumstance. It was a box of frozen muskrats all together. Long story but a lady's son had died and she brought in all the fur he had in the freezer. It sold as one box..."

The comment above yours explains why it sold so high. It was nice to see MTPCA people and buyers help the women get everything in order to be sold.

Actually, 1 rat that sells for $32,50 out of 2611 rats sold, won't affect the average much at all. Probably pennies.

It is just like when a western cat buyer goes crazy and pays $1700.00 for 1 cat. It won't affect the average much at all when he puts it in with 499 other cat pelts.

Just saying.

I'm not a beaver trapper, but I'm curious what quantity of castor goes for $125-$150.

.....................Nancy that's true but it also don't give us the number of unsold pelts that are not reflected in that price average....what % sold? is that
the average of only the top end that sold? so with the example you gave us, if that 1700 dollar cat was the only cat that sold out of the 500 in the sale......the sale average would be 1700 average lol
just saying

That average listing will be edited to show all the frozen items as one line item to keep averages in line. At the time there was no line to add those frozen muskrats. Hope that makes it easier.

I saw the lady who brought the hides in in plastic ziplocks and a number of boxes.

The price on castor was for packages with a lot of castor in them. Not per pound.

Thanks Big Joe, for the update on prices. Something can't always be remembered.

Was it only 1 rat that went for that, or a lot?

I wasn't at the sale but my understanding is that the $32.50 was for a group of green muskrats that were frozen together. It was not possible to determine how many pelts were in the frozen group. So they listed it as one.

Apparently the frozen group of rats belong to a young fellow that had passed away and his mother was selling them to get them out of her freezer.

That is the information I gathered from the posts in this thread.
