Somewhere on the site a member showed how he cut out a section of mite/flea damage on the neck of a coyote and sewed him back up. Can someone help me out. Getting a few with damage that I would like to try and fix.

I can't help you with the information/video you are looking for but I will say this. I would be cautious about cutting out sections of the neck fur and sewing the area back up.

If it is a large enough section that you cut out, it could affect the shape of the pelt and the way it looks when it is dried. If that area of the pelt is too narrow, it will call the sewing to the attention of the grader/ buyer and most likely cause the pelt to be down graded.

If it is just a small area, you might be able to hide it. Can't say for sure without seeing an example.

I'm sure some folks will disagree with me but it is my opinion that if you cut out a spot that big and sew it up, the basic shape of the pelt will be altered. Plus the neck area will be too narrow to fit on a standard stretcher.

They were chewing lice, and I call those kind of yotes "ditch dogs".

Thanks for the reply’s. I understand you can’t alter the pelt much in the neck but I have a few with minor damage and there was a fellow on here that showed a pictorial where he made a + shape cut and got rid of a small damaged area. His results were really nice. I also ditch coyotes with major damage but thought I would experiment if I could remember who had those instructions posted on here.

If you are trapping coyotes in North .dakota, they better be REALLY bad to pitch them. In my opinion, even a heavy coyote that grades a III is worth putting up. Won't bring as much as a .# 1 but I bet you can still get a twenty dollar bill for it. And I sure don't pass up twenty dollar bills. smile
