I am looking to buy a dispatch pole for coyotes. Which one would you recommend?
Thanks for your help

Lee Steinmeyer’s Death Ray!!!! Also, I wish I would have listened to Lee and got the 2 footer instead of the 3 footer. I thought reach would be an issue, but I nose tap them now so I can place the cable exactly where I want it. I will be getting a 2 footer eventually. .

Why is the 3 footer not as good as the 2 footer?

I have Lee's 3 footer, and I like it.

Thanks for the kind words fellas! Why is the 3 footer not as good as the 2 footer?
I ask if you use cages. If you say yes, then a three is the way to go. If you don't use cages, then a two is all you need. The longer they get, the harder they are to run, and the harder it is to catch the critter. Like DFabs said, a nose knock helps the life of the cable tremendously!

Finally had to put the spare cable on mine. If wasnt using drags and pulling stuff out of brush without a little tap first i think i would be on the original. The original lasted several seasons btw. I just straightened out kinks when it got bit. Finally got kinked enough it wouldnt really stay open to good

Yessir I will. I prefer to sell them in person so I can explain the nuances of the beast! There are a few things that make a difference for the life of it and making the cable last! Thanks. I bought a 3'. Have NO complaints. Love it. Have 2 of them in-fact. Having Lee demo and explain the proper way to use and maintain the Death Ray is WELL worth it. I had a little trouble with my comprehension over the phone, but speaking with Lee in-person, at a convention, had me straightened out, and it kept my cable working the way it's supposed to all season long, and ready for next season. Lee is a good guy to boot, so it's a win-win.

How about a short video on its use? The placement nuance affecting the life of the cable and efficiency, keeps me from pulling the trigger.

The big thing is where the end of the ray is at so that the cable is pulled straight into it. A pic of a properly placed cable would do the trick IMO. Rather than centered on the back of the neck, it should be placed more behind one ear or the other so that the cable is straight as it is pulled into the ray. Purchasing a Death Ray is money well spent. The time it saves in cleaning blood from fur is worth it alone. SO nice to bring a bunch of critters home that haven't bled onto one another.

I wish I could find someone around here techy enough to help me put one together! I agree, a video would sure help, but on the other hand, I can't build them fast enough to supply the market now! I have never advertised at all, everything has been word of mouth.

Hi Lee, do you think you will make it to the Iowa trappers convention this year? I would like to see them first hand. Thank you

Thank you No, since I started teaching at the FTA college, the dates to make both the Ia and the Mo rondys have not worked. Sorry, but can only do what I can! Thanks Swifty for answering for me. Had to go to town for an appointment. Will be at the FTA and the Nats in Springfield this year. About the only state rondys are Ne and Ks. Will also be at the spring Tx rondy! Probably be in a tailgater spot, but not sure at this time yet.

I thought reach would be an issue, but I nose tap them now so I can place the cable exactly where I want it. I will be getting a 2 footer eventually. Would someone mind sending me a PM and explaining 'nose tap' to this noob, please? I'm pretty sure I can find the nose, but with what tapper and with what 'gentleness' the tap is conducted, would of be some help. I've only got about 12 coon to my name, have thought about using Lee's device, but am having difficulty imagining myself within 2 feet of an upset coon. Thanks.

I’m glad I found this thread. I’m still new to this. A veteran trapper recommended that I get a catch pole with a T-handle on it and I found this one https://www.rpoutdoors.com/animalcatcher.htmlDo many of y'all think it would be worth it to a newb? I anticipate using it more so to release unintended species caught in my trap. I can’t imagine using it to dispatch many unless I catch an obviously diseased or rabid animal. Id like to read some opinions please.

Much easier to pull a knob and have the loop thrown open.

I figured all are capable of dispatching animals. Thank you all for the responses. I didn’t even receive a notification when you all responded.

…. That’s the pole I use to kill wildcats Ezana @Savell Good to know. It's what I have, so at least I know what's possible when I come to a place where it may be necessary to dispatch an animal with minimal to no blood on the fur. Thanks again.
