I would not get the fox version, if there is a chance of catching a coyote. You definitely want the closed jaw, as I’ve lost raccoon in the offset before.

Ave, do you run some 450's? Yes I do. I’ve caught coyotes and fox in them, and a ton of coon as well. I switched over to closed jaw due To the fact that I would hold about half of raccoon I caught in the offsets.

I run a few 550s and catch plenty of coon in them as well. If you would like to adjust pan tension on them, simply bend the dog down.

Taximan, that makes sense. I assume just using 2 coils will drop pan tension about 2 pounds? It was so wet and muddy down here I was told it may be better to use the 4 coils to fire quicker thru the mud and the muck we had to set in this year. I know the 4 coils are a bear to set w/ my old wore out hands and thumbs! So maybe 2 coiling them will be easier to set also. I may still get some 450's closed jaws and set just for coons and fox. I appreciate the info. Hope yall, are not snow'd in for too long! It's 80* today, and winds blowing 20 to 30 mph, it's too windy to fish, so I will go work on my traps. Thx again, " bayou "

I had both, really on dry ground didn’t see a difference? Have a bud in Maryland, he runs all offset 450’s with no problems. Now u put offsets in the water, you have a problem with pullouts. Just my .02.

I’m using 550 2 coils offset and catch coon, fox, bobcat, and coyote with no issues, I don’t see how the 450 could have pullouts if the 550 doesn’t. Only offset pull outs I've had were 650's, but they're a much wider offset. I've held coon with no trouble in offsets other than the 650's.

Not me, caught a bunch of coyotes with them. Who on here has personally had a coyote pull out of a 450 fox, and how many times? I have never heard anybody say that actually happened to them.
