For those of you that have and use MB-450's; Out of the 3 different models of 450's , which would be overall best trap for Fox and Coons?

I would not get the fox version, if there is a chance of catching a coyote. You definitely want the closed jaw, as I’ve lost raccoon in the offset before.

Yes I do. I’ve caught coyotes and fox in them, and a ton of coon as well. I switched over to closed jaw due To the fact that I would hold about half of raccoon I caught in the offsets.

Thx for the info. That's what I was needing to know. The last couple weeks I had traps out, I had 4'coil 550's set out for coyotes and I had coons and fox show up. Several times I had a clear fox track directly on top of my 550 and it not fire. I had coon tracks all over the pan working dirt holes and didn't fire. They weren't digging traps up, just stepping on pans and working bait /sets. So rather than adjust my 550's I rounded up a few old 1.5's I had and switched out 550's for 1.5's, covered then lightly and I started catching coons and fox the next day. I have so many coons and fox on this one track of land I figured I would be better off setting more of the 1.5 size traps. I was about to get some new 1.5's so I figured I'd try the 450's . That way if I caught a coyote the 450 would hold up better than most 1.5's.

I run a few 550s and catch plenty of coon in them as well. If you would like to adjust pan tension on them, simply bend the dog down.

Bayou Trapper, cut the 550's back to 2 coils and your problems wil go away.Even in our snow, ice and sub_zero weather,I only use 2 coils. All the 4 coils do is increase the pan tension and make them much harder to set.I do like 1.5's for strictly coons.

Taximan, that makes sense. I assume just using 2 coils will drop pan tension about 2 pounds? It was so wet and muddy down here I was told it may be better to use the 4 coils to fire quicker thru the mud and the muck we had to set in this year. I know the 4 coils are a bear to set w/ my old wore out hands and thumbs! So maybe 2 coiling them will be easier to set also. I may still get some 450's closed jaws and set just for coons and fox. I appreciate the info. Hope yall, are not snow'd in for too long! It's 80* today, and winds blowing 20 to 30 mph, it's too windy to fish, so I will go work on my traps. Thx again, " bayou "

I had both, really on dry ground didn’t see a difference? Have a bud in Maryland, he runs all offset 450’s with no problems. Now u put offsets in the water, you have a problem with pullouts. Just my .02.

I’m using 550 2 coils offset and catch coon, fox, bobcat, and coyote with no issues, I don’t see how the 450 could have pullouts if the 550 doesn’t.

Only offset pull outs I've had were 650's, but they're a much wider offset. I've held coon with no trouble in offsets other than the 650's.

Who on here has personally had a coyote pull out of a 450 fox, and how many times? I have never heard anybody say that actually happened to them.

I've got a mess of coons in both 450 regulars & 450 offsets.

I've caught several coyotes in the 450 fox, without any issues
