I have always wondered about setting a trap on the exact property corner and using the iron rod-pipe for the anchor. When I set a property corner is the monument owned legally in interest by all adjoiners?
Zim If anyone would know the legality, it should be you?

I love hunting South Dakota and am already scouting for next year, I found this spot but to get to it you need to cross a corner as shown in the picture below, is that legal in South Dakota? if that map is a quarter section and there are no two tracs on the boundaries... you will notice the area does not include a corner post...many section lines have been closed by the landowner s on the township board.!!!
The only place you find free cheese is in a mousetrap !

You would have to ask yourself if it will be worth it to fight over in a court of law. Because the landowner will have great lawyers and maybe the game warden in his pocket also. So you gotta ask yourself, are you feeling lucky?

In SD get a hold of the landowners and just get permission to cross would be the easiest! LOL That should be the 1st step, if that falls through then hunt elsewhere.

Any landowner that would be a dink about that should be flogged!
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

^ That is the law in many states. With that statement and from where you are from (MN) that is why MN get the bad name as a non resident hunters. Most that I have come across are above the law if from MN. Now I'm not starting a fight just stating my experience and many other that I know in different states as well. Lol

There is not a man on this forum that could jump a corner post. sound like a good way of leaving a trophy hanging on the post. Not anymore, but there was a day when a corner post was nothing for me to jump over. I have jumped up and stood on a corner post. I used to jump over picnic tables the long way and a lot of other stuff that made people wide-eyed. Even some 5-10" white guys can really jump. When I was 48, at basketball game at the YMCA, a tall guy dunked and hung on the rim. The manager told him if he did that again, he was going to get a written warning from the YMCA, so I asked him if he would give me a written warning for doing it. He said yes so I jumped up and hung on the rim. I framed the warning.
