Iv'e ran MB 550 os 4 coils for close to 10 seasons without any distortion or need to readjust unless they get ran over. 2 pullouts out of a bunch of coyotes, I have no reason to buy a copy that may or may not hold up to the actual hard pounding trapline.. I'll stick with what's working!

I like this post!! I have over 200 MB-550s . Their great traps. Please tell me the name of ANY one that Longlines with duke traps?? smile

SwampRat83 , I was talking about coyotes. The MB-550s are used by Many Longliners. Who uses the Dukes for Longlines?

I think most of you are glossing over Tim's main beef, and if I'm wrong Tim, please correct me. It's not that Duke is copying the MB design. It's that Minnesota Trapping Products, has had a significant hand in Duke's success over the years, Then, without saying a word to him, they trot out this trap which is clearly designed to cut into Tim's profits. That's cold.

I know of a long liner that used Duke traps In winning the Coyote trapping contest on the res In NM. And It was just more then one year.
I think he took over 400 coyotes out of Kansas and ND last season.
It's not the trap that does the catching It's who Is operating It.

There was a post on here within the last 2 yrs from a guy that has made his living catching coyotes for a long time and I think most would say he falls in the wolfer category and his comment about Duke traps when it came up was something to the fact that they had caught a lot of coyotes for him. Wont drag him into this discussion but I pay attention when he speaks. Dont know if they're his favorite trap or his go to trap but by his estimation I would assume they get the job done.

IMO mink and coon doesn't count for durability. I'd be interested to see a Chinese made coyote trap go the test of time like a no BS or other Amircan made traps. I am not talking catching 20/30 coyotes I am talking catching them for years 100s of coyotes per trap and them giving your children them traps imo such Chinese made coyote traps don't exist. So I'll stay with my traps that will last forever and my kids will use them too. There are some things you can go cheap on but when it comes to coyote traps it does not pay in the long run to go cheap on coyote traps

Really? That really suprises me. I used afew Duke #2 , about 25 years ago . They caught coyotes, BUT I was ALWAYS working on them. Seamed liked I was always having to bend them back into shape. I Base plated them and night latched them. Wasnt pleased with them, so moved on to Bridgers. BUT for last 10 years I have run MB-550s. Caught 307 coyotes last year in MB-550s . I quess you either like a trap or you dont.

I agree 100% that they will get the job done for most. BUT here is the thing to me. IF i have to spend time getting traps back in to running order after a catch, that trap isnt worth my time. Here is an example. Bridger, Duke, Victor, and BMI K9 Wolfers. I have used them all over past 30 years. I couldnt begin to count up all the dogs that I have lost , bent up, or had to replace. Have had to replace 2 dogs on MB-550s in 10 years of running them AND im talking big jobs 150 plus traps in ground. Use what you want or what you like. But I feel the Mb-550 is a good trap .
