Looking for anyones input on using live cage traps for mink. Besides location, should I blend it in? Lure? Bait? Anything helps, I just wanna catch one to get it off my bucket list. The lives traps I have are 6x6x24.

Apparently no one cages mink, 908. I suppose you could try putting part of a muskrat in the back of a cage.

No bait required. Make a tunnel in the cattails in a muskrat run. Cover and blend in completely. Make sure your trap is sturdy - they get a real attitude.

Cheap dry cat food. You don't need to blend the trap. I catch them around my chickens. I have caught them in the wire traps and in skunk traps. If you have mink it shouldn't be a problem.

X2 there not hard to catch in cages I have lost count of how many have ended up caught around the farm in protecting livestock when not wanting to chance harm to other animals around the place

6x6x24 is about perfect for reaching in to grab them with a gloved hand, without the mink escaping.

A friend of mine used to raise bobwhite quail and chuckars. Used live cages for mink that would get into pens. Just hung the head of a chicken or quail in the back of the trap and covered it with cloth except the entrance. Caught several mink over many years using the method.

They go right in a cage,no problem at all,no different than a mink box with a 120 .[Linked Image]
I cover the cage with a chunk of canvas,or an old piece of carpet.

The mistake most make is that they only set one trap on location. set that second one cause the caught one will spray and the other mink is always following the front mink.
Size small than Boco is what I used when we were trying to get a new tick species years back. Two traps there was always 2 mink...set one and you catch one. ( but we has 100 traps to start with)

I've caught some mink in colony cages set for muskrats. So they will enter smaller sized cages, 5 x 5 to 7 x 7 inches.

We catch lots of mink in cages here, we live on the ede of the desert so any water way means mink. Small cages set facing down stream or perpendicular to the calmer side of a stream will produce well. we bait with chunks of beaver ot muskrat quarters. When working the drier deeper ditches we run run bait plus a squeeker to get them up to the cage insted of us climbing down

There is a man in Ireland that places the cage in a pocket set buried under the ground. He uses no bait its just a pocket of curiosity.

I wonder how the irish man keeps the ground from caving in around the cage

What would you guys consider to be about the right size? A chippie or squirrel sized trap? Or something slightly bigger than a squirrel sized one?
