Other than skunk essence, what makes an enticing smell that an animal wouldn't want to eat? Thinking about mixing up some bait this year and want to keep critters working for it. Thanks.

what makes you think an animal wont eat a bait with skunk in it?

stay with natural products rather than artificials

skunk imo is over used and used incorrectly A LOT

Just out of curiosity why is it important that it be something they don't want to eat

Shellfish oil for coon attractant, if artificial, is bitter, and they won't work the dp anymore if they taste it. Same idea here.

Just because they will eat it doesn't mean they prefer it. Dog with a mouthful of skunk makes for a pretty good witness.

lots of different ways to use skunk. lots of different ways to handle it also. straight pure quill is only one way.

Same goal here, but I figure if they get a taste and like it, they're more apt to keep working the set until they connect.

They like venison ! Pick up a road kill and grind or chunk it up . I’ve always tainted it but last winter I used untainted with good results .

They should be caught long before they get a chance to taste it!

Absolutely true, I started talking about this in my Wildlife control talks and lectures way back in the early 1990's Taste baits and lures work both ADC and Fur trapping all year. And when understood and incorporated with the proven smell baits and lure mindsets both excel.
