There are other differences in rural Alaska than the lower 48 as well, I think.
More policing may help, but I think there are attitudes and ideas in rural Alaska that must change before real change will come.

Exactly. It will take "cultural change" to get better.

In bush Yukon calling the RCMP is a total waste of time, and I was reminded of that fact just last week when we actually caught two slugs in one of our cabins. Police were not interested at all. They wont even answer my emails. This isn't the first time it has happened either. I have zero respect for our LEOs. Will deal with it my way from here on out. Im so sick of being taken advantage of, it wont be pretty next go around.

I spent the last month watching organized crime ,primarily nonresident guides and fishermen illegally fishing for king salmon during a closed season with a little help from resident air taxi services.

Residents are not allowed tp fish or keep even one fish, yet a blind eye is turned to the comercial abuse of the resource when there is a conservation problem?

I met up with a CO one day near my trapline. He had a snow machine, sleigh and a bunchof 5gal jugs of gas and some overnight stuff.
I asked him where he was headed,he said there was a report of two guys fishing at a remote lake and staying in an outfitters cabin. He was sneaking in to gather some evidence and arrest them.from where he was,it was about a 150 mile trip one way breaking trail thru the bush.

In all fairness Jeff, I agree with all you said, but you have to take in consideration how many more people there are in NY State than in Alaska. I live in Central NY, in the Country. 4-5 hours away from the NY City cesspool. I am hoping to be able to go to your great State some day. Not trying to be a ----, just saying. Would be a trip to have your life style.

Jeff. Each to his own but a couple of facts. 1. I’m an 8 hr drive NE of rotten NY City. You mentioned a number of lousy things in/around cities. I agree with NEAR these (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) holes. Not a problem here. Please take the time to look at a map of NY.
2. On MY property I trap beaver, mink, otter, coon, rats, coyotes, red and gray fox, fisher, and bobcats.
No bag limits and for some critters 6 month season.
All of Alaska is not the same, neither is NY.

I am not here to bash New York State, I do know geography (Thank you) I just wanted to discuss some of the serious problems there, but the OP deleted his post. I guess he only wants to hear about Alaska's problems and not about his home state.

If that’s the case it’s shameful.

Bash NY City all you want. lol. We do too. Especially Cuomo and DeBlasio. Our gun rights are always in jeopardy because of Cuomo. He likes to pass Bills in the middle of the night. There are many serious issues in this State, agreed.

As some of you may know I'm trying to move to the interior in the somewhat near future. I had a customer come in yesterday to my work with Alaska plates. After helping them, I commented on their Alaska plate and asked where they were from. They said Seward and that they absolutely hated Alaska and would never go back. He said the crime and drugs was out of control. I mentioned that I was looking to move to the interior and he said "well you better move soon because the whole state is in the toilet, because of the heroin addicts and car jackings. Oh and Seward has become the gay capital of Alaska." I couldn't help but think that this is only one guy's opinion (and the first I've really heard someone from Alaska talk about the state that way). He said I would be crazy to leave Idaho. But something about the guy led me to believe that he was exaggerating. Or that maybe it was just his area of Alaska in particular that had those types of severe crime issues and that he just had a bad taste in his mouth. I'm thinking I'm going to visit some towns in the interior before I actually move up there to get a look for myself. If any of you want to meet up for some fishing or bird hunting, I'm probably planning on September of 2020 for a visit.

Don't know about Seward, but plenty of theft and break-ins around here. Mostly drug-related.
And, the State is financially broke.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

Spent a short time in Seward this spring......from my short observation I would say the fellow you talked to was pretty much correct. A real close friend is a state trooper up in Anchorage and he says its so bad he's going to quit and move back to Yukon. Stay in Idaho, you wont be disappointed that way....

Just like everywhere else in this country Alaska has a relatively large percentage of people who can't deal with life on a daily basis. They have turned to drugs and alcohol to escape, can't hold a job and have lost any sense of morality if they ever had one.

This is what happens when there is no accountability.

It would be an act of mercy if they were shot and killed in the commission of a crime.
