Ok, this is a strange one!!

Anyone know roughly how far Cigarette smoke smell can travel , and still be able to smell it ? At about 1:30 AM this Morning, I got up to close the Living Room windows : because I thought it might rain during the night. I get in the Living Room , and I smelled the distinct smell of Cigarettes in the Living Room, especially near the open windows. No one in the house smokes, nor has anyone been here that smokes.

it very much depends on the air conditions , very light breeze right direction humid thick air i can smell my neighbors smoking from about 50 yards but it is light , now a cigar or pipe 100 150 yards.

if your property boundaries are more than 50 yards away I would guess you had a visitor.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

As Pete mentioned, moisture in the air in relative slight slow air movement can carry that stuff.

Your sense of smell helps too.

Not a few times in life, Ive been alerted to outside activity in the night simply by detecting that smell in the air.

UGH........

I remember jumping in the boat one September day and starting down river..into the wind. I immediately smelled ciggy smoke. About 3/4 mile down stream, here sat a hunter on the river bank puffing away.

Run, explain just how that could be, please. I am interested in your explanation, in further clarification.

If the smell of of cigarettes was strong, you most likely had a peeping tom, or would be thief, looking in your windows.

While bear hunting once, I went to the top of a cliff to glass the huckleberry fields. I immediately told my hunting partner that there was someone in the basin smoking. About 10 minutes later a guy stepped out with his horse over a half mile away. Through binoculars I could see he was smoking.

Do you have a teenager?? Just kidding, but yes with the right wind and timing it could have been someone a hundred yards away.

Could be someone who thinks the whole world is their ash tray and tossed it out the window in front of your house, like they do at every stop light and before they go into a store.

I have no idea how far away one can smell a cig. I can tell you they stink and can be smell for a long ways. Wildlife would detect a smoker from a long way out. I use to hunt with a smoker, I don't any more for many reasons.

I'm not a big fan of cigarette smoke, but the way SOME folks whine and complain about anything to do with an adult smoking bugs me even more. It's one of those subjects that turns some who profess to be live-and-let-live types into the worst holier-than-thou types you'll run across.
