My area of NY now has a fisher season and I'm going to take a crack at it. We have very specific regulations pertaining to bodygrip traps. I will mostly be using 160's. Which of these 3 designs do you think would be most effective on the ground?
We can use body grip traps without cubbies on running poles as long as the trap 4 feet above the ground.

I don't think it will matter much, so I approach it as the easiest to make, quickest set... it would be the first pic. You may want to consider the #155, a body-gripping trap measuring less than 5 1/2 inches may be set in any manner with or without the use of bait. The Noonan Cage Set is lightweight, quick set and works well also, just another option although must be 4' off the ground with the #160. I still set my #155's 4' off the ground with the Noonan Cage set, no bending, stooping or kneeling required. Best of luck to you sir.

I agree with rendezvous, " I don't think it will matter much, so I approach it as the easiest to make, quickest set." If they want the bait they will go for it even thru a 3" restricted entrance hole. [Linked Image]

Correct me if I’m wrong in NY with the use of bait on the ground the 160 would be illegal. Less than 5 1/2”.? Must be 4 ft. above ground. 160 that is.

Some correction. Some boxes can be used but very limited due to length restrictions.

Body-gripping traps 5 1/2 inches to 7 1/2 inches set with the use of bait, lure, or other attractants may only be used according to certain specifications.

Body-gripping traps 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches set with the use of bait, lure, or other attractants may only be used as follows:

Four or more feet off the ground.

or In the container designs Archeryguy has posted, only excluding the Bucket Set.

NOTE:

You may also build an enclosure of natural materials (e.g., logs or rocks). The opening height must be 6 inches or less and the trap must be recessed a minimum of 8 inches.
After December 10th in the Northern Zone, body-gripping traps set on land may not be set with bait or lure.

In the bottom pic, how does the box retain the trap? What is keeping it from falling out? And, is a single spring trap adequate for Fisher?

Narrow deep slots and proper dimensions will keep the trap rock solid.Place the trap in the box on an angle one spring in first, then the other, then pull the first one down to lock in the trap. [Linked Image]

The first box you posted is my choice. I build them 7 1/4" inside.
