Good evening,
It's soon to be hunting and trapping season. Large aerial and topo maps can be a useful tool in planning an upcoming season. I'm fortunate that I make these as part of my job. Trapperman and the folks that help make it has helped me a lot.
If any of ya'll need a large (wall sized) map, let me know and I can probably whip one out for you. You will need to have an email address so that I can email the PDF. From there, one can either put it on a flash drive and take it to the local print place that has a plotter, or most times those areas will let you open your email there and you can print that way. PM me if this is something that may be useful. Thanks Trapperman. Chancey

Thanks Lugnut.
No Sir, run. I just have to make a lot of topo and aerial maps for my job. I had to purchase a map making program so that I could do this and the program allows me to make maps of various sizes using aerial imagery from USDA and topo maps from USGS. I have made some for my buddies to hang on the wall at their deer lease.

I wasn't going to charge anything gryhkl. I've been blessed and have learned a lot from Trapperman and its members.
The size of the area will depend on how big the map is and how large of an area you want to show. For example, if you want to show a large area on a small map, then there will be less detail and resolution than a large area on a large map and vice versa.
OKforester is 100% correct about Avenza. It is a very handy tool and will allow you to see exactly where you are on the map. I use it all the time and find it very useful.

Good morning Trapperman,
I'll be in the office this week during these rains. If any of you could use a large field map with detail for hunting/trapping this season let me know. They can be put on your wall in camp or use on your smartphone or iPhone. Please PM if this is something that you may find useful.
I'll need the following...... - Some way to find the area you are wanting a map of. A google earth KML is probably the easiest, but I can find it by Township and Range if necessary. - An email address to send the map to - What size map you want? 2'x3' 3'x3' 3'x4', etc. Most plotters can't print larger than 4 feet. Anything bigger, the cost is usually higher. The size will often depend on the size and shape of the property. - What do you want to title of the map to be?

I forgot about Chancey's offer and recently had Mytopo.com build me a map of the area I hunt around my camp. I've been buying custom topos from them for twenty years. I'm one of them old school map and compass guys.
The map was for a new guy at camp.
You ever heard of them Chancey, affiliated in any way?
Eh...wot?

I have a hybrid topo/satellite map of my area from MyTopo. I don't know that it's a unique feature to them, but you can center your map on any area you want. I centered my cabin so folks from away can get a lay of the land. I had it framed under glass so I can use a grease pencil to mark areas of temporary interest. It's big.

No Sir, Lugnut, I've never heard of them. I just use ESRI ArcGIS software for my work. I work a lot in the reclaimed mines and need to know linear feet of streams, acreage of previous ponds/wetlands, etc. Then postmine after reclamation, I have to get the new figures of what is there now vs. what was there.
I also use this software in oil and gas making maps for pipelines and surface sites with environmental features on them. I can quickly and easily measure distances, acreages, dictate buffer zones, etc.
MyTopo I am sure is just as good and easy to use. I was just offering in case anyone here did not have the means, and the map I make will be georeferenced so that you can open on an app like Avenza and it will show you exactly where you are without needing cell phone service as it runs off the phone' gps. Can also do basic measuring, distance, acreage, etc.
I made a big map for my buddy the other day with all stands, watertroughs, watergaps, feeders, roads, etc. the other day so he can give to his interns and help them learn the property more quickly by using the map on their phone. Shows them exactly where they are.

Trust me, they can shut the phones off with the flick of a switch, probably coming ,with a illegitimate excuse.
I've always loved maps, keep a state atlas in the truck too. I just wonder how the snowflakes are going to navigate if the manure hits the fan.... These folks can barely tell time without Siri They won't be able to navigate gcs. Not just snowflakes either, my wife as well.
