I had expensive gm replacement fuel pump in my Colorado truck early this year, warranty is up on pump, catalitic converter which is built on to exhaust replaced 3 years. Ago, the catalitic converter is bad with check engine lite on for months, but runs fine. Was told may or may not ever clog. For quite awhile I hear tick noise when running an if get out an listen underneath , that sounds like exhaust noise. Could that noise be converter or newer fuel pump ? Not sure how long been go on , pickup just turn over 200 k miles but exellent runner or performance wise , not sure what kinds noise either thing mention makes, I watch u tubes of it

I don’t think it would be the fuel pump. Could be a loose exhaust bracket or a hole in the exhaust. Hard to say without hearing it.

Not sure. I have start listen an go for short drive soon. Don't sound like cracked exhaust manifold as was replaced 3 years ago, I rember that, loud at start up an then quieter. Cracked exhaust manifold is deadly, comes right though the air vents interior. Though firewall an dash. They put new exhaust manifold in to, a steady not resl loud but noticeable tick tick , like exhaust, that why thinking converter. They reset the check engine lite in shop awhile ago an came back on like they say. A few days later

Yep..That's maybe why your light's on..It's detecting a sensor in the exhaust system malfunction..If the systems are not working properly probably ends up burning more fuel than needed..no big deal..

Its a chevy thing, i think they have the most sensitive check engine light going. Lol i bought a chevy blazer once that was told the fuel pump is going out, and the injectors were plugged up. I got it cheap, and a mechanic friend said put 10 gallons of 91 octane gas and 2 cans of seafoam in it, and drive the 4ell out of it. And it came out of it, did need a fuel pump about 50,000 miles later. You can get by a few times just kick the fuel tank, and they start. Was the best 500.00 dollars i ever spent lol.
Let me sugar coat this

A point of interest to you Coonman and maybe others. I have an acquaintance who works for gm as an engineer and I complained to him one time about the short life of fuel pumps in my GMs. He asked if I ran with low fuel a lot, guilty, and then he told me the more you keep that pump submerged thru it's life the longer it will last. Don't leave it low. Sorry if I'm redundant.

Yep.....^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I have heard that also from many different people and shops..It's about having cover over the fuel pump..the fuel acts as an exchanger and removes heat away from the pump..thus creating a longer life of fuel pump
