I got checked by the local warden last week while pheasant hunting at my camp. Me and a couple of buddies were at the local game lands when the warden rolled up on us. I figured I was going to be in trouble and at least get a citation because as soon as I saw him I realized my hunting license was back at camp in my deer hunting day pack and not in my small game vest where it should’ve been. Turned out he was a decent young guy and simply took my information, called it in and saw that I had all the appropriate licenses and permits. It also turns out he is a fellow member (new member) of the Ridge Runners Hunting Club, a group of guys that lease about 3500 acres of timber company property. I’m sure I’ll be seeing more of him.
Eh...wot?

Looks like a bunch of magazines in his vest. Must be a lot of outlaws around. I would guess granola bars and candy bars in that vest.

I don't know about where you were but here in ks the reg says you have to have it with you. Have heard of judges tossing those tickets if you show up with license and date of purchase is prior to getting the ticket. Pretty sure you can still be fined though. My best guess is you were polite and did not try and pretend like the officer owed you a break or something, admitted you were in the wrong and would make every effort not to do it again?

Having certain pieces of paper to prove an issue is always a predicament.
Once my wife got stopped by an officer and she was asked for the insurance certificate.
She couldn't find it(nervous) in the car. It was there along with some other information.
She got a ticket. I found the insurance paper and went to the sheriff dept. to show them.
I showed them it was up to date some 3 months before. I went to leave and they told me I still had to pay the fine. ;(

Now a days they can look it up in a matter of minutes and find out if you have one. But there are some that would've still wrote the ticket.

Yes Danny, I was absolutely in violation. You have to have the proper hunting/trapping/fishing license and ID (I keep an old driver's license with my hunting license) on you here as well. He could have written me a citation or at least a warning but chose not to. Yeah, i was polite. I told him as soon as he ask for my license that I'd left it in my day pack where I'd put it to go archery hunting the evening prior and forgot to put it in my small game vest before leaving camp that morning. I can almost guarantee you his predecessor would have wrote me up. I considered him a good guy too. But you could be his best friend and if he saw you commit some minor violation he'd write you up. He was just a stickler that way.
Eh...wot?
