If it is dry, and you are putting it in under cover, space is the only advantage I can see. If I have time after cutting and splitting I like to pile it. I think the air gets to it a bit better too dry. I might be wrong. When I don't have time it just goes in a heap like it did this year, then into the basement. I have only burned wood for heat and I suppose someday I will have to have a back up. Not looking forward to that. Mac

Use some wood pallets to stack on. Their up about 4 inches and air can get under to some degree. Additionally build a shed roof up against an out building. Then its covered from the rain mostly.

Unless you enjoy ,the work,of cutting and stacking...or use it as an excercise event....I perfer to do other things with my spare time...and walk over to the Thermostat and have a nice even heat. I use to burn ,when a cord of wood was cheap.

We burn wood at our cabin and use it for making maple syrup in the spring. A full lean-to is a beautiful sight! Those racks are about 6' wide and 3 logs deep. my back hurts just looking at that!
