My wife told me there is a beaver down by the corn field, she seen it on her walk. There is a small river down there, I haven't seen anything yet. I'm going to go try to catch the beaver, what is your favorite set and what should I be looking for. The only beaver lure I have is Backbreaker . Thanks for your help

Take a walk, get to know the beaver. The beaver may very well show you where to set. First have you any beaver gear? Or some you can use.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Same here with a Bridger #5. In a break or a well defined crawl out.

I snare most of my beaver. set the crawl outs, dam crossovers, main travel ways. I don't use a lot of lure. The Backbreaker works great at castor mound sets with a large foothold on a drowner rig

Taken a great number of beaver by making a castor mound and placing a 330 in front of it.Put that Backbreaker on top of your mound.

If you don't already have beaver sized gear snares are an affordable way to get in the game. A dozen snares cost about the same as one beaver trap

If you can snare then snares in the runs and trails are the easiest setup wise. Also just blind setting where his slides meet the water with foothold or conibears is very effective

If you have 330's use them. I find that a lot of beaver in small creeks/rivers especially if they are young two year olds do not have castor mound's the first year they are there. Find a pullout near where he's feeding and slam in the 330. If he has started on any dams set there.

If you find where the bank den is then forget the rest and set the opening to the bank den.

Even if a beaver doesn't make a castor mound, they will come to one you make. Doesn't matter what age they are--they will investigate the stranger in town--( the mound or mounds you make). I make multiple mounds . Best percentage at one spot--8 for 8 on mounds set along 1 dam in less than 100 feet.
If you build it--They will come.
Make your own--FIELD OF DREAMS.

I got 6 sets out today, 3 MB 750 where they go out of the water to the corn field. One 330 at bank den, one blind set at narrow spot in run, and one in a shallow run into corn field at this set i made a caster mound with Backbreaker. We will see what happens.

I have a question on setting a break in the dam with a foothold. It is trap placement. Is the trap set to the side of the break or in front of it. I haven't used much footholds mainly just body grippers. In the past when I was young I tried some footholds in a break but kept having problems with the traps end up being pushed into the dam repair.

When putting traps in dam breaks, offset slightly to one side. Put a breasting stick in so he hits his chest with it and puts his feet down.
