Fellow trappers and snare men:
Anyone maybe having a good idea for a DIY bench mount for a hand swage tool? Haven‘t yet found a good way to operate my standard swager one handed... Tried gripping in vice, didn‘t work well, though.
Am I the only one with this dilemma and not aware of maybe even a simple way to properly gripping the swage tool into the vice? Or is there any simply DIY bench mount option?
Photos would be great...!
Thx.

I have a friend that has taken two pieces of wood and with a router made them curved on the inside where the handle of his swager pretty much fits. Then when the vise clamps down on the handle it holds it straight and evenly. Most likely this is why the vice didn't work for you. Just and idea.

20 scout's looks nice, but is pretty much permanent - or at least not portable. I did like walleye above - the pvc has a notch to accept the stop where the handle closes, to prevent spinning. The setup works but the jaws rotate upward when closing, so you have to get all your parts situated just right, then support it and hold things in place as you start the compression stroke.

I have been piddling with a solution to this problem for like 2 years with zero positive results.
And you guys go and come up with something simple like mounting a piece of pipe, and make me feel like an idiot!!!
blush

Oh well, guess I will be doing a little pipe work in the shop this weekend!

Look at the picture that the late Ed Robbins,,"Possumskinner" showed in this thread.

I drilled 2 holes into the edge of my work bench where the plywood sits on a 2x4. One for my swage one for my bolt cutters. .
