Didn't say the brand but know on some of he older Ford trucks had to break open the other line and apply the brakes to recenter the switch.

Usually you just clear the code with a scan tool if he has done that and the light is just coming back on you might have another issue or just a bad sensor
Has he used a scan tool to check what code is causing the light to come on

Check emerg brake pedal to make sure its fully released . Only takes a couple of clicks to pop the red brake warn light on J

The light is controlled by a switch on the proportioning valve. Odds are with the loss of pressure when the wheel cylinder leaked, the valve in the proportioning valve shifted to stop or reduce the pressure to the rear brakes in an attempt to keep the front brakes working.
What happens alot of time is once the leak is repaired the valve sticks and doesnt like to return to its normal position. The valve actuates the switch that turns on the brake light on the dash. So until there is enough pressure applied to the rear brake sytem to reset the valve the light will stay on.
Your entitled to oxygen. Everything else is earned.
