You're best bet is to use 2 traps to the set,if you use 1.75's step it up to bigger steel.A wider spread is a definite plus.here.Shake out 1/2 a bale,or less,up to you how much you want to use, make a small mound towards the edge, this is where your lure or bait will go.Place your traps in the hay out front of the mound, don't get carried away here with covering them up,it doesn't bother the coyotes.Due to the time of year with this set I always used drags.Where I live I always used straw because we have a lot of deer here.Another thing,I had my best luck with this set after it had that weathered look, this may be a regional thing but I can only remember one time where I caught one on a fresh set.

We do have some fox, but not a lot. Put out four hay sets and two dirtholes where i found some semi dry ground not froze rock solid. This weather is making me crazy, wish it would either stay cold or thaw completely, but thats trapping. I still have 11 traps under snowdrifts that i would like to get back to reset before May lol.

Not a fan so far, might be me, might be my coyotes, might be my impatience in this crappy trapping weather I have.

I went to a demo at this year's State Convention in which Trapper Art said to scatter bird seed in your straw set. He said it'll attract mice and pretty soon more furbearers will be attracted to the set.
