This is the man that won the coyote trapping competition many years in a row.

Dont believe everything you read in a book is more like it..... 7% catch rate is Terrible.. 7 Coyotes for every 100 traps. Might be good for a beginner...

Just because your imagination is so limited doesn't mean it can't be done. BTW way he has caught 249 in the last 14 days, not 200 and he aint the first guy to ever catch numbers like that in the same time period.

I was just going the post that. I just got off the phone with him.

Yes Robert traps those dead piles at those feed lots but he also traps all the approaches to those feed lots not just the dead pile.

Just bait and real urine seem to be a common theme amongst a lot of the guys that catch big numbers during fur season especially here in Ks. If you talk to him again I'd be intrested in what percentage of his sets are dirt holes if he'd share.

I would bet 100% dirt holes.

Anyone know how many Phil Brown is up to? I thought I saw that he was out west somewhere trapping coyotes. I always figured that if someone was going to hit 1000 in a fur season it would be him.

I've heard that James Lucero used to put up huge numbers when he lived in Kansas as well. I've never met him, or read his books, but people that knew him back in the 70's and 80's said he was a coyote machine.

I'd never question Robert's work ethic, or his love for trapping. He's attempting to do something that I would never want to try. I just can't imagine skinning that many animals a night. I love the catching, and seeing them put up in the shed, but I'm not a fan of the in between. hahaha

Of course he's got those big old gorilla hands, so he might just peel out a coyote in seconds.

About 90% dirt holes made with a 3" auger and stuffed with bait. No lure just bait and urine. He did say that he did use some blind sets when he was coming In after another trapper that had wised up the remaining coyotes .

I was told that Phil had about 3,700 reds In storage. Don't have any idea how many of those were caught this year.

Phil posted a picture of him trapping some coyotes somewhere out in this neck of the woods. I don't exactly where but the terrain was certainly west of his normal stomping ground. Cannot remember the thread. Been a long time since i seen a post of his. 1000 coyote quest is something. I would suspect that there is more planning behind the scenes on this then most folks spend trapping in general. From what i have heard about the big time guys like this the system is what make sit for them. similar trap setups similar sets set on sign and roll on.

My hats off to this fella, quite an undertaking and it seems like he has the skill set to do it.

No worries friend. We all handle it differently when they all start talking #s on here and we realize we aren't as good of trappers as we thought we were. But your supporting people and paying your bills so keep your chin up.

i dont believe anybody can run a 25 mile marathon in 2 1/2 hours since i cant do it. 25 miles takes about 14 hours and the bottom of my feet are sore so no way anybody can do that.
