The newer Tundras are extremely tippy. A friend broke his hip when one flipped.

A newer tundra is thousands of dollars. Look for aYamaha bravo long track.

I got an 80s model Bravo given to me this fall. It had 6200 original KM on it. Carb was fumed up so I cleaned that and now it runs like new. No way I would buy a new snowgo in your situation. I had the engine on my old Tundra rebuilt this summer for less than $500 bucks. That machine will last another 8-10 years easy. My main sleds are newer models but Im running tons of miles.

"New" does not equal reliable." Used" does not equal unreliable.

In the big picture, yes it does.
There is a reason buisness people sell their old stuff and buy new stuff once it depreciates to a certain point.
Some people want to spend time earning money not working on a money pit.
Downtime costs money.Lots of money.

Simplicity usually equals reliability. Thats why the old Tundras and Bravos were so good. Simple design that are very easy to work on. They proved themselves for decades in the bush.

In todays market unless you are running a big line, you are not going to pay for a new machine every few years trapping. Anyone who says they are is lying to you. Because of my business I do buy new every 5-years or so, but my machines will pay for themselves rather quickly with fur sales and business income. Still, I trust my old Bearcat more than any machine I've ever owned other than the Bravos. Those sleds were so reliable it still amazes me. Ive got a Bravo sitting in my yard right now that will start the first pull, every single time, and its two decades old!

A good old Bravo or Tundra are hard to beat. But good ones are getting scarce. If I were buying a new machine, or newer used one, and not pulling Heman woman hater loads, I would get a Tundra Extreme with a 600 Etec, or a Tundra LT with a 600 ACE. I've had both, and am pleased with them. Both have a 154 inch track with an articulating chassis, which makes for a smooth ride with good flotation pulling a sled. They both will pull a bigger load than you think. They are tippy on hard snow and ice, so be careful. The Extreme is better if you like to play or have a lot overflow or water to cross, with longer paddles on the track and better acceleration, with the LT being better for pulling loads at low speeds. In my experience with about 30,000 miles on 8 different machines with 600 Etecs, I've had zero mechanical problems. In the one machine with the ACE, it has almost 6,000 miles, and the starter has tore up,leaving me stranded between villages, and now the headlights are intermittently working.

Starter problems are common with the 600 ACE. There is a way to prevent oil from getting into the starter by drilling a small hole in the front of the starter. There is a thread about this on Dootalk. I bought an aftermarket starter that doesn't have this problem.

Yes the 600 Ace seems to suffer more starter issues then the 900, oil comes through the seal and gets into the brushes and they wear away quickly. Usually see oil in them by 4000 miles and sometimes sooner.
Easy fix though, new brush set $61 Can. and a good cleaning, drill a drain hole at the lowest part of the cover and no more problems.
At least the starter is accessible and only 2 bolts to remove.
