Faux fur is plastic, and so is Polar fleece and nylon. They take centuries to disintegrate, but most urbanites don't even think about that.(WILD) Fur is Organic, Free Range, Green, and easily biodegradable. We have nano-plastics raining down on us and enviro's are telling us to "wear more plastic"?

Fixed that for you!

Yes. And some goes back into wild fur promotion. But clearly not enough.

We need a full on promotional campaign like milk, beef,O & G, every other industry.

Maybe the auction houses could have used my magazine subscription fee for that instead of mailing me worthless toilet paper.
That would have added up to more.

Remember that the better NAFA marten are not sold, so those that took advances are still getting charged 2% interest per month . So those 2x and 3xl dark marten that put the averages up there the hammer has not come down. Thompson does put out a lot of dark marten...just look at Scooters collection.

I cancelled my subscription, and use devil's club leaves. Natural, and renewable, ya know.

Just doing what I want now.

Even a comparison to last year wont be accurate since you had two entities offering advances last year.

Two entities offering advances means more advances were given last year, that's your implication, correct?

The buyers share still comes out of what they pay you for your pelts, I'm OK with that.

Dave Bewick posted that the approx. 3500 Marten purchased or consigned this weekend in Thompson Manitoba, brought $38 avg. in Canadian dollars. 127 trappers attended the sale. For those without a calculator that's $28.80 USD. Last year 2018, average was $58CA. or $44.08 USD. or 53% higher.

Not necessarily, just saying its like comparing apples and oranges until the consigned fur actually sells.
Last year according to Gibb, they overpayed at thompson last year and lost money.I believe that.

Your suggestion is for FHA to allocate more of the commission from pelt sales to promote wild fur with a message similar to what’s been discussed earlier in this thread?

If that’s the case, here’s my issue with that. FHA is into Ranch Fox. Ranch fur is the #1 problem, by far, in regards to the value of our wild fur. I don’t want any more money from my trapped pelts being controlled by anyone involved with ranch fur. The whole auction process for fur gives us sellers of wild fur no leverage. Just because that’s how it’s been doesn’t mean that’s how it should be. Business conditions change over time. The wild fur brand needs to stand completely alone!

Like all of the industry you listed in a previous post. Dairy, Beef, Retail sales, etc.... In Those sectors, among others, the vast majority of smaller operators have been run out of business by large operators. The reason for that has been simple. Scale. Wild fur Vs farmed fur is no different. The wild fur operators simply cannot compete with the fur farmers. Their per pelt costs to produce are a fraction of what wild fur cost to bring to market. The majority of processors want farmed fur nowadays because the margins are so high. This corporate fur farming is here to stay. Even if the EU cracks down on fur farming, China and Russia will pick up the slack. There are no regulations in either of those places.

From my perspective the the path to survival for wild fur, the wild fur producers and the wild fur brand of North America is to go it alone. At this point what do we have to lose? The vast majority of our product has so little value it doesn’t even pay to produce it anymore. It’s purely recreational.

How can we go about starting a new fur auctioning company or two that only deals in wild furs, with only trappers as board members?

If someone starts a fur auctioning Company that only deals in wild furs, ran by trappers, I will join up and contribute. We are our best masters.

The question was asked “who’s going to pay for it?”

The answer was provided...,,.

Then it turned into the usual wild fur vs ranch fur argument.

Really not any different than rifle hunters vs bow hunters/fly fishing vs bait fishing/commercial fishing vs recreational fishing/ski vs snowboarding/etc,etc,etc.

Bottom line is that the fur industry DESPERATELY needs a pro fur promotion campaign.

If that were the case I would interested in shipping
I have NEVER sent to any auction house NEITHER OF THEM because I thought they had conflicting priorities.

Yes...Kobuckster nailed it. He also nailed the contradiction in the whole idea. His last statement sums it up.

No entity is going to be economically viable when the cost of production exceeds selling price.

Even it trappers controlled their own auction house............there is no market except for a couple of specific items. That is never going to keep anyone solvent
