Thanks guys, this post has been a lot of fun. So cool reading all the replies and experiences you've had. At 62, 16 sometimes seems like so long ago yet just like yesterday!

We’ll heck. My first vehicle was a 1989 ford ranger, I’ll love her till the day I die. If I could own another I would

My first was a 1967 gmc pickup, been some good times in it. Back in the 80's it hauled in a few coon's. Still miss it. So a few years ago i found a 1969 chevy, slowly fixing it up. 2nd car was a 1967 chevy chevelle, was told it needed a engine cause it over heated. But a thermostat and a good used radiator and the way we went. That one was hard to keep tires on lol. It to wish i still had. Till i find one of them i got ol' red to keep me young ( picture if i can). [Linked Image]

I was 17 in 1964 when I bought a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria from my 2nd cousin that had 121,000 on it for $100. All the tires were bald and blew two of them driving it to the farm I lived on. Retreads were about $5 each and $1 to mount so I bought 3, two to put on the car and one for a spare. The car was in pretty rough shape but it allowed me to get around for about a year. That was the first car I owned and did not own another one until I was 25 after graduating from college and getting out of service.

Frankenstein truck. 55 chevy engine and chassis, 71 Chevy cab , some international front end,box was 3/8 sheet metal with toolboxes welded in on both sides. Some loggers built it for skidding logs and traded it to my grandfather for doing some welding we did for them. Grandpa told me if I could get it running I could have it. Straight 6 with 4 on the floor and granny low. Thing was a beast buy 45 was top speed going down hill with a back wind. I was 15 and self taught myself a Lot about working on engines. Sure wish I had still had that thing.

That sounds like a good idea! Based on all of the people I have heard talk about their first vehicle they all wish they kept it!

1974 Dodge 4wd with a 4barrel carbed 340 dart engine. Gosh it was a beast. Wouldn’t be able to afford gas for it as a 16yo now.

Now since you didnt specify road cars Ill go from here. First road car was a 1966 chevy impala ss.,396 375 hp turbo 400 tranny with portable a/c....bought it in va with 28000 miles on it for 400.00 Wrecked it and sold it for 225.00 then bought a 1970 mach 1 fastback 302 built ,balanced and blueprinted by the national drag record holder at that time in ohio. 4 speed, only thing stock was rearend...high 11 second quarter mile but unlimited top end. Got in too much trouble with that one so i sold it.

Mine was a 68 Jeep Wagoneer, this same color before I started in making it the ultimate cruise vessel, with a custom paint job, big tires and wheels, 8 track, you know all the cool stuff. I would get up in the middle of the night and drive all the back alleys when we had a big snow storm just to find deep fresh snow to play in. Seems like nobody had 4 wheel drive back then. It had a 350 buick engine in it right from the factory.

1986 Jeep Cherokee 4x4, great vehicle! Wish I still had it, it would be the perfect trapping vehicle. That thing went anywhere, was just the right size, and was easy to work on!
