What about muskrats,I have never seen one climb but I think they might be able to. When the last time you saw a beaver in a tree? Their sure not built for tree climbing. I've never seen one in a tree, but I heard possum can climb trees. With their prehensile tails and front paws, it wouldn't surprise me. Some of the trappers farther south would be better experts on that.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

Wetdog I have heard that about grey foxes, but did you see one climbing a tree or brush?I do not trust pictures in books etc, these can be staged,I am looking for first hand trapper information. Seen it and shot them in a tree Used to tree grays all the time when I was running hounds had a few reds tree as well but reds prefer to run and if really pressured go to ground in a hole or other cover

Here is an otter that I would guess had to climb a little. My wife saw a weasel bouncing back and forth between two burn barrels until it made it to the top a couple days ago. The barrels are about a foot apart.

I've shot 3 gray fox out of wild persimmon trees 10 to 15 feet up the trees.

Another post got me thinking about this. I have never seen skunk or otter climb although I believe they could.I have seen groundhogs climb small brush. I would be interested in hearing first hand information(no hearsay or old wives tales) about animals not normally associated with being arboreal that trappers have seen climbing. I have caught several foxes over the years in elevated marten boxes on trees 5 feet up(no running pole).I believe these animals jumped up(not climbed) on top of the box and were caught. Someone posted picture on a Manitoba based face book page of an otter caught in a marten box.
