Great stuff JR! I too wonder what the poor people are doing at times.
Hope you catch that wolverine.

Good evening trappers. Came off the line yesterday with very little fur. We had a great time but couldn't call in a wolf or put one in a trap. Picked up a few marten and released a few more. Didn't catch my wolverine but left some more gear for his return. My TX hunter spent a lot of time on his side with my new Expedition. [Linked Image]
We had some crazy weather from -10 to +30, sunshine, snow, and some crazy winds. My groomed trails didn't last very long and my gear is long buried.

Last week I found a wolf pee post on the ice but didn't put a trap on it because of it's location and after the wind this shows up below the pee.

Looks like a moose fell through the ice at early freeze up when the water was high and got washed downstream.
Made it over to the Wood and follow saw a bit of older wolf sign over there. Will head back over and get some gear out. Lot of overflow and fallouts over there. Kinda sketchy running especially with a rookie from Texas. Worried for him and my new sled. [Linked Image]

Really fun to share some of my country with some new eyes and share our Alaskan experiences with people from down south.

Had the wolves answer back two times but wouldn't come in. Didn't see any fresh sign on my line except from Lucky and I've all but given up on him. Got some #9's to build and sleds to work on. Hope you all are doing well. Good luck and be safe.

One thing's for sure JR he'll have some stories to tell for a long time to come darn nice lynx what did it weigh ?

We've had near white out conditions and drifting snow here this things are looking similar to what you had out on your line.

That is a good looking kitty! Sounds like that guy had a good time, wish he could have connected on a wolverine or wolf though. The weather has been terrible down this away as well. From negatives to +40 in a day to snow to rain and back again. Nothing is on the prowl or moving. Thank you for sharing the adventure! You be safe out there!

Looks like that Texan had a great time despite not connecting with a wolf. Nice lynx!

What gorgeous country, JR. Love the ones with that deep glacier blue water, and colorful skies and layered mountains. Makes me want to capture them in art.

JR, thanks again. That's a really nice piece of country you live in up there. Wolf or no wolf, your Texas guest just had the experience of a lifetime.

I'm really glad to hear that you are trapping those wolves over on the Wood River. I hunted moose there a few years ago and 2 days in a row I saw a pack of wolves across the river from me and I was extremely tempted to shoot them, but I didn't for fear that I might scare some moose from the area. I always felt a little guilty I didn't shoot at them. Because I feel like it's kind of the moral thing to do to thin them out a little bit. But I'm glad you are doing your part to trap that area. It seemed like there was an extremely high population of wolves in that area.

Picked up a few shed antlers this year and hadn't taken any pics of them. Here is a small pile I'd brought home. Not many this year with all the snow but should be fun hunting this spring. [Linked Image]

Good looking antlers! You put them in the auction or sell privately ?

X2 on the horns JR are you going to be doing some carving before the Spring Fling or are some of these going to become Ulu handles ?
As Bruce T mentioned the last moose horn is rather interesting looking I hope you find the other side too .

Thanks guys and gals.

Guess I'm not seeing what you guys are seeing with the non-typical moose antler. I will put these in the ATA auction in March. Haven't carved antler since my bout with cancer. Still scared to put 10,000 rpm dremels that close to my digits. I have a crate with around 400 pounds of antler ready to carve when ready. Building #9's this past weekend and heading for the line on Wednesday.
