Excuse the spelling but what is a carberine?

What is the purpose of making sets away from the snogo trail? I assume your on a registered line and no one else uses your trail. You mentioned your quota. Do you have to quit trapping marten, or any other species, when you reach the quota? Any repercussions if you don't catch the quota? Who, or what entity sets the quota? How many spare traps do you carry on your runs......since you don't take frozen critters out of the coin?
So........be honest with us Gibb............don't you miss be able to use footholds? What did you do with all the footholds you must have had when your socialist govt. decided you couldn't use them anymore? Can you give us an estimate, on average, what did it cost the serious trappers to retool to conibears when you were forced to?
I'm surprised you were able to afford to just go out and buy a new 900 ace snogo. That is around 10-12 thousand US here in Alaska. Is there a subsidy for trappers to buy a snogo? Certainly your not one of those rich people that socialist govts. love to hate? (insert humour please)!

I use them on all my small conibears.

Yes it was ! over 30 years of trapping and yes the conibear is thee best trap for marten hands down in my opinion. But in Washington we have had to use cages only for s long time and they work very well but a 24 hour check time sucks you know what I miss being able to trap like the old days

My machine cost me 306.00 loonies a month for 4 years, I generally run a snow machine for 10 years, love this 4 stroke Skandic but it is tipsy because I hate dragging a sleigh behind.
I started off using footholds for marten but would never go back. However I don't judge anybody who can. I generally have 4 spare traps of each size.I will take a frozen catch out of a trap if I can but not always possible.You get use to carry spare traps, the only pain for me is forgeting my trap setters I don't care for setting the springs by hand anymore.
The cost is like any trap once you buy them you get many years out of them, my Sauvageau 2001-5 are at least 20 years old, my Belisles are new about 4 years. I still use my footholds for spring muskrats and can use them for mink trapping.
No subsidies, I am a regular working guy and don't qualify for anything but paying to much tax.I am able to write-off the snow machine against my taxes.
Once a quota is filled you are done, in rare cases if the population is on a big upswing you can increase the # but I personally prefer not to deal with government and the red tape my quotas are high enough that I can manage my lines the way I want too.

Our Socialist government gave us a 5 plus year phase in period to spread out the cost of re-tooling, This was way back in the 80's for my area and at the time the association for humane trapping would give you a 120 for every 2 footholds, When we made the jump from standard 120's to the more modern magnum or what we call the 3rd generation rotating jaw traps in the 90's most of us had already started buying the better traps so it was not much of a leap. For sure some of our older trappers did not like and do not like the 3 generation traps but that's like anything in life the older we get the less we want to deal with any change.
