I had to put a couple beaver sets in this evening in the dark. While doing so, the target slapped the water at me several times. Was my cover blown or is it no big deal?

Thanks backroadsarcher, I was only concerned cuz I had a light going the whole time (which i didn't mention), but it was right by a castor mound, so I hope he/she investigates!

Good chance your traps will be full in the morning.

I hope so 20scout! Thanks, I have never attempted beaver, but got a request from a landowner...I need more land, and I LOVE helping people!

Many times setting up at night,I have beaver slapping at me as I am setting the trap.As I am heading off after setting, not far down the shore,I have heard the 330 go off--beaver caught. I don't worry about the tail slapping.Numerous times I have had to move off to the side and let the beaver hit my castor mound and 330.I call these my-INSTANT BEAVER. Tom

Just had a beaver slapping at me about half an hour ago....good luck!
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT

Tom I too have experienced these events but am never happy when I am after an educated one and I hear that it knows I have arrived.Once while I was making a set one came about 4 feet behind me before it pounded the water. I jumped high enough to almost clear the water I was standing in. I try to avoid it now by making my sets in mid day and checking well after daybreak.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

I was after 2 beavers this year and had the slap happen a couple of times. Took me awhile but I finally got them both. Good luck Looks like it will take me awhile as well, but not giving up! Thanks for your replies!

Try standing waist deep in a small river fly fishing at night. You won't see the beaver coming but the "slap" a couple of feet from you will cause a unintentional bowel movement! Lol, at least you can clean yourself up quick! Hope you had your rod on a string.

Well it's been a long week with no results...I finally got my (Charles) Paul Robbins (i know it's Paul, but caught this in a previous post), lol, Backbreaker, and hopefully I'll have something to show for it tomorrow! If not, I'll keep trying.

I have 3 conis, and 1 foothold...it's a somewhat small pond that the landowner is trying to drain. I'm not frustrated yet, just trying to keep my thread going.
