I bought a couple dozen dp traps that were heavily painted to the point the dog and spring would not move. I've tried cleaning them with paint thinner, gas, and break fluid as I know all of these can cause the paint to blister. So far nothing has worked. My next option is to throw them in mt cement mixer with a bucket of sand and let it run for a while. Has anyone else used this method to clean traps or have a better option. The paint seems to be latex.

Soak them in acetone for a little while. That will take the paint off.

I know vinegar will take a rusted trap and make it look brand new in a couple of days.

Take one of those hand held torches and burn It off. Just stay away from the spring or just don't linger to long on the spring.

Rob is probably right about the super clean, I’ve not tried it. I have used the cement mixer, but you would be better off using sand blasting grit . Black beauty works well for me .

I have boiled some in lye or Sani Flush and it worked but the Super Clean sounds very interesting .If it works,I would choose it every time, over more caustic stuff and especially over acetone. Thanks for the tip guys.

Super clean is amazing stuff. Will degrease new traps in 20- 30 minuets. Will eat paint off over night. I bought a vise for my trailer and it was oily so I threw it in the super clean over night and the next day there wasn’t a speck of paint on it. That’s how I figured it out about paint. Will also remove powder coat but it takes a very long time. I use it straight but the guy who told me about it cuts it with water. 50/50 I think.
I have degreased in super clean, rinsed well , hung fo two days and then waxed new traps. Caught several yotes in those shinny new traps.

Thanks guys I'll hopefully get to it this week. I'll bring some black beauty blasting grit home from work this week along with any other left over blast grit in partial bags I can find just in case I cant get super clean.

Update: it took several days in the super clean but it has stripped all the paint off the traps and could be hosed off with the garden hose. Now do I need to neutralize the traps with baking soda and water or are they good to go in the dye pot?
