I am wondering what it now entails. Is it a brainwashing thing? If you are white, do you have to denounce your whiteness and admit you were born privileged or something like it?

Oh yea ..... My stuff is so diverse , I was going to drag another couple of oaks up the hill this morning, but it raines making the ground slippery so I sat down at the sewing machine instead making a sail coverer a customer. Now if that aint diverse, I don't know what is.

Suffered through it. Cartoon videos always an Asian woman, African American male and a Caucasian male. Woman and African American did all the presenting and the Caucasian was always the goof ball. This was the same training that informed us taking bribes was not only unethical but could also be criminal.

It worked. After those classes I looked at my diverse fellow workers much differently.

It can be interesting the difference in thought patterns that place.

Had to do it annually. It was almost always terrible and cheesy. The last one we did was much more thoughtful. Eventually the Diversity Team and HR did away with it and now have Diversity Credits if we attend certain things throughout the year. Much like healthcare credits for our insurance premiums. We actually won awards once we did away with the old diversity training.

I have been through it a couple times. Some is simple corporate box checking, other stuff was pretty good.

One of our trainings was taught by an asian guy. Through the course we figured out that the two most white bread dudes in the room (me and another guy) had way more asian experience then the guy teaching the class as we had both been missionaries in different parts of asia. The other guy was even fluent in Korean. The asian instructor was middle class suburban kid from western Oregon that didn't speak a lick of his grandparents native tongue. Kind of illustrated that you can't tell much about people just from appearances.

I don't remember any talk of white privilege or anything else. In fact, it was more along the lines of recognizing that diversity can increase strength of the team and not to pretend like differences don't exist. Not exactly life changing stuff but better than some of the other corporate BS I have sat through over the last 16 years.

There's only 2 kinds of people in a workplace. Those who can do the work... And those who can't.

That's all the diversity I recognize. Everything else is just feel-good garbage.

Mike, you forgot the third kind. Those who can't do the work, but are willing and able to learn it. Unfortunately, most who can't do the work do NOT fall in this category.

Just do allot of nodding, agree with everything they say, and think about trapping. You know how you go through school each day.

Had to, the crap they came up with was laughable. Nobody cares about feelings. My team knew their job and knew they were good at it. We had standards that EVERYBODY met. We laughed together when things were good and prayed with each other when they weren’t so good.

Know your people, recognize when someone is having a bad day and pick them up until the day gets good.

They make it rocket science like everything else because of lawyers.

Know what is better/worse than diversity training? The sexual harassment training. The most memorable was the quid pro quo segment. Some middle aged hildebeast rubbing the shoulders of a handsome young man talking about "professional development".
