So the elk could immediately be tagged and if pregnant they would chip the cafe as well and be set free. Tagged in Utero? or tag the calf?

What bait do you use ? Home built trap ? or store brought ?

It's an intersting catch of deer and elk in a " live trap" no more than that. Don't see anything there promoting the act?
Trappers in General and especially on this site are checked before being able to post or join. Trappers have a lot of laws and ethics to follow compared to most other activities.
Ford does not place a warning on thier F-150 trucks that says don't clamp an outboard to the tailgate and assume it can be used as a boat. There is a base line of integrity understood among people to do things properly. Heck we all drive down the 2 lane highways passing people going the opposite direction everyday at 60 plus MPH. There must be some assumed integrity ..... right? I cannot see a fella in Tennessee reading this post and then yelling to his wife in another room " I'm headed to home depot gotta buy some parts to build a giant trap. We are driving to Colorado this weekend to catch us some elk"
However, I've been wrong about a lot of stuff in life, maybe there would be a mass exodus ot future elk trappers descending upon the rocky mountain states! Nice reply

They would put a chip in utero. Then when the cafe is born they can start tracking both. There is alot of studying going on with the elk in pa. Never knew it was that intense until a couple people showed up on my property asking if they can trap and track the elk that stay on it. Exactly how can a calf be chipped "in utero"? I am usually pretty good at using GOOGLE to track down research on just about any subject. I can find nothing about attaching a chip to any mammal "in utero". Can you provide a citation to any description of how this is done? How is the chip activated after the birth of the calf?
