Tried it last night. Cut a rectangle shape probably bigger than I need. Popped a small hole through with dog sitting on top. Worked pretty good setting it in garden box, will have to try it this season.

TP, 4 pack at Family Dollar. Use a single sheet or double it up. That’s where I have landed after trying everything.

I have found very few pan covers that were re-useable after a catch.

Don’t like using covers? Pull off a couple sheets, ball them up and push them under the pan.

You just need to keep dirt out from under the pan to the degree it will fall when stepped on or pushed, which is a whole other debate.

Crumpled up wax paper, biodegradable and super easy and quick to make. Just unroll and fold it several times and cut with a utility knife. I can make a few hundred in 20 or so minutes. I just crumple 1 of them up when I'm bedding a trap. Can't get much easier or cheaper than that.

Cut the roll into 5” rolls. Pull, tear, crumple, place.

I use steel screen on the pipedreams and flat sets. and something under the pan on dirtholes. usually a corn husk, or some of my dry grass covering.

Anyone just use enlarged pans and just forget about it ?

I have been practicing bedding them and they need a pan cover in my opinion.
I personally don't like dirt inside the trap, I use screen covers even when I'm covering with a lite coating of dirt.

LT Grey. I am going to jump on the bandwagon with a dozen MB-650's with the big expanda pan setup and go coverless. Just wax dirt. I know other guys are starting to do it here and i think my hatred for pan covers might be solved? We will see.

My question to you is you have caught more animals by accident than i have thought about catching so do you go coverless now? I can assume there is caution about surrounding to make sure nothing is getting in the pan area overall but what different might one about?

Well when my trappers cap fit the traps I had I never used anything under the pan or over the pan. It worked just fine. But know with all the different pan styles and sizes It's a real problem to find something that fits.

I have been considering getting a cap for one specific trap and trying it. Might try both at the same time? Go with a dozen traps 4 regular with pan cover 4 with expanda pans and 4 with trappers cap and see if i can figure out which i like better. Trying to make some sort of experiment out of it as i tend to just make my mind up on something without fully trying it out. Last year i went through 4 different types of man cover and i did not like any of them.

How or what you use to bed your trap In will determine what you use. If your bedding In peat moss then the trappers cap Isn't going to work as well.
I think the secret Is a minimum of pan drop before the trap fires. Then even if some dirt gets under the pan It's not going to effect anything.

I have a good many traps with enlarged pans and I have a number I still use pan covers on, ( I prefer a stiff wire screen on larger jawed traps.)

There are times when a pan cover can cost you a catch !
