You can use It both ways. Mixed with some other type bait or as a trailing scent.

Most of the bear hunters I know use it around their baits.

It has little staying power however. It's alcohol based. Smoke oil lasts longer I agree with that for sure. It lasts long enough to bring them into baits usually the first night it would get hit. If I was doing it again and targeting Coons I would use smoke oil found on FandT etc. to make the bait I used in my dps.

Wade FYI your bucket feeder liquid smoke thread is one I reread each summer. Now that coon prices are in tank if there are buyers anywhere coon by volume is only way to seriously trap them and hopefully cover gas money. I have two sweet corn farmers that expect me to trap coon on their ground. Feeders back in woods behind the properties has been a game changer for me. Excellent thread, you did a great job of letting us follow along and join in when we could. Great thread. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Jim it sure is a way to knock a pile of them out fast. I wish I’d known then what I know now when I was dropping them off carcass for $16-20 a head. I’d went bigger and harder.
