Never bought a gun I had to register. Don't want any paper on a gun I own.

If you have a friend with an FFL, they may not charge a fee. If I owned guns that is what I would do.

I'm pretty sure you can't compare anything to 40 year ago prices. A lot has changed in sure, don't know for a fact I'm not even that old yet. Not sure what gun you could buy new under a 100 bucks. I go to a lot of auctions old ones that don't shoot just to hang on a wall go more then 100 most of the time.

To bad you live so far away. I got a Remington 597 .22 i bought about 15 years ago that i would sell you cheap. I don't know how many of you have shot one but it has the worst factory trigger of any gun I have ever shot

Adjusting for inflation, that is exactly what it should be worth.

I'm not sure about Iowa, but certain states if you are prohibited from buying a gun and they call the NICS, you'll know in a hurry when the cops show up. It won't be the gun shop calling. It will be an automatic call from the NICS system itself. Most times the call will have been made before the gun shop even gets the denial.

not really sure that ever really happens.

if it did they wouldn't have over a million deny. and federal prison would be full of the people who were deny.

the crime is lying on the form if you were never convicted of a felony and you had no idea they modified your misdemeanor you are not willfully lying on the federal form.

I've bought a couple of guns online and had them shipped to a local FFL dealer. It's a simple process and whatever site you're on you can see who the local FFL holders are that will process the paperwork for you. It's $20 or $25 here. I think if you buy in store you still pay a fee for them to do the background check so it's not costing you much more if anything having it shipped to them.
You're buying online so you have the shipping fee as well which you need to pay attention to. That's usually around $25 - $30. Now buying online sometimes you don't have sales tax so that can be a benefit.

Suit yourself. Buying online is an option. I hope you find something but you need to look at all options. Prices aren't going down soon and supply is getting more limited everyday.

Midway has a 301 Stevens 20 gauge single, with a modified changeable choke tube for $154.00 new in box. Very similar in design to NEF single shots.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I got a Model 60 30 years ago and it was in the $150 range, and the Tasso World Class that’s on it was $100. Since they were introduced in 1960, I don’t think the initial price would have been $30...

If he paid a fine, then he was found guilty, adverse adjudication.

Coonman have you asked the local dealers what they charge to fill out the paperwork? They do charge for doing it.

I just looked on Gunbroker to see the FFL's in the Dubuque area that you can have firearms sent to. The majority charge $20 - $25 for the paperwork fee on a long gun. You'll have to pay shipping for an online purchase which is typically $25 to $35. So in total it will add around $50 to your purchase. You just as well minus $20 off that for the paperwork fee you'll pay anyway. Also some online dealers charge sales tax some don't but all local dealers must on new firearms.

We're not splitting atoms here so it shouldn't be this much of a struggle.
