Will be in the Aleutians from the end of September until end of november. Anyone have advice concerning clothes, footwear and fun things to do. Mostly in Akutan, but some in King cove and Sand point. I know how to dress for cold weather, but assume some rain gear and muck boots vs lacrosse pacs vs ?

It will be wet, windy and will rain sleet, snow side ways but not too cold. Keep dry and you won’t need true cold weather gear.

Wind, rain, and yes, snow. Rain gear is mandatory. Good thermals, also. Wear what the locals wear.
I spent 3 years in Kodiak, and learned the hard way.

Made it almost 3 years without censor!

Get some real rain gear; HH, Grundens, etc., and a pair of extratuff boots. I like to put a pair of neoprene liners in the boots so that I can take them out every night to dry.
What are you planning to do in the area? Lots of fox in some of those places. If you don't want to fork over a lot of money for a nonresident trapping licence you can always buy a hunting license and shoot some. Ptarmigan populations are way down on most of the peninsula, might be some on Akutan. The waterfowl hunting in the area can be really good. Take a fishing pole and a few lures and cast from shore for dolly's.

Any insight into getting supplies in those villages? Will walmart ship groceries out to the villages or how does that process work.

Not sure who ships groceries that far out. Would have to come from Anchorage. Sand Point and King Cove each have a store with high prices and poor selection. Akutan not sure. All 3 have a big fish processing facility and if your work is in any way linked to them you may be able to get meal tickets for the cafeteria.Like said, prepare for wind. November can be the worst month of the entire year. Seen it blow 100 in Akutan in November.

Fred Meyers has a "bush order" department at one of their locations in Anchorage.

I dont live as remote as the Aleutains but live off the road system. We go to anchorage and fill up totes and mail them to us and make sure we also mail our clothes and bring the max allowed worth of groceries home with on our flights.

That's what I used to do in the old days. Before Amazon Prime and ebay. Now I get almost everything shipped in for free.

Like Jeff, Amazon and Ebay, target is pretty cheap too. Can get a meat order from Mike's Meats in Eagle River, averages out to about 5 bucks a pound to our village for a large pack of varied meats. We eat mostly moose, caribou, and salmon though.
