I have some fleshed beaver that I dried on boards, but am lost on what to do next. Do I need to pickle and degrease it and then tan it? Or could I wash it with dawn soap and brain tan it with deer brain? Or is there another way that you would recommend?

You can't go wrong with being outdoors.

Very simple to do with this stuff. What ever way you decide to go, make sure it's cool enough that your not dealing with flys or humidity.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I've done about 15-20 beavers with Trubond 1000B. A gallon will probably do 20 or a few more and it's $70 after shipping. They sell smaller quantities.

I pickle 4-5 days before applying that stuff. They send a pamphlet with the product that has instructions. They also have a product called Lipasolve 77 that you can add to the pickle to help with drawing out extra grease. If you decide to pickle, I use citric acid in my solution and you can buy 10lb bags on Amazon for about $20, that's probably about as cheap as you'll find it.

I've been pretty satisfied with the end results from using it. It leaves the leather with a clean off white appearance and the hides are easy to break after they're tanned with it as well.

I use TruBond products also - great results and easy to use. To get a really good, soft tan you will have to pickle, and also thin the hides. Beaver have a thick skin, the thinner you can get it, the softer the tan will be. Beaver are also greasy so they need to be degreased - in the pickle and again after the pickle. Getting grease out of the pelt also improves the quality of the tan. Tanning isn't hard, but pelt prep is very important as is following the process closely.

i've tanned many diff hides with TRAPPERS HIDE TANNING FORMULA in the orange bottle. Must be done on a freshly fleshed hide though. Tried it on dried skin and re-softening but not the same results. Plan ahead & use on fresh hide. Follow directions exactly as to salting, fleshing, etc. Good fleshing job is a must. Step for adding tanning solution the bottle must be heated in hot water as in instructions.
