Boiling some new MB550's I got a good deal on (always have to tell the wife it was almost like I was paid to take them) so she understands!! Ha! Dawn and water to get the oil off and then dye and wax.

Cut a big propane tank in half and welded handles and a tube steel base on it. I made two equal size out of it. Takes 2 people to lift it when it's full for sure.

I actually have a wife who lets me run new traps through her dishwasher. She's a farm girl, came with 200 acres and the only negative is she didn't have boat a when I met her.

I never use anything to take grease off new MB550. Not needed, as this is good steel, and not the types that need to be slobbered with oil to keep them from rusting.
Been doing this way for over a decade and works A-OK.

Blessings,
Mark

Do you not have to wax them down there Mark? Maybe so hot and dry rust is not a problem. I cleaned and dyed them, now I am going to add 8 links of chain, a shock spring and swivels before I wax them.

I always wax. Keeps them from rusting longer. I don't use any more than stock chain and I haven't used shock springs since I left long chain rigs in 1979.

Good Trapping.

Blessings,
Mark

Man my hands are so sore from playing with 550's today. Just got 8 1/2 dozen and cut the center links out and replaced them with crunch proofs. Can't go wrong with short chain and 3 swivels. Tomorrow is adjust pan day and 4 coil.

One Hand Setters make playing with 550's easy peasy.

I sold my 4-coiled 550's years ago. Not needed and some of the landowners where they have dogs can't open them if they try and let a dog out. That's a bad scenario waiting to happen. 2 coiled for 11 years now and happy as a clam.

Blessings
Mark
