Post maul handle. But use a Ruger GP100 .22lr as a back up. Also a T/C venture 22-250 for targets of opportunity.

Old Remington .22 LR. Its worth about $20 but my brother put $500 of custom checkering on it (eye roll)

I got this model 63 S+W,in 1977 and have carried it ever since, often year round and it almost looks like the day I bought it.It is entirely stainless, internals, screws, everything.I have replaced grips a few times but for the last several years I only carry it in a full coverage, flap, shoulder holster. That keeps the grips in good shape when squeezing through ledges and rough, mountain mahoganies and keeps the muzzle from dragging on the truck seat or elsewhere.Besides the dispatch,it has taken a lot of game over those 42 years. No,it doesn't need to be babied. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69413-m63_and_wolf_track.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69414-m63_holster.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69416-m63_on_rock.jpg) My eyes aren't as good as they used to be,so when I am keeping an eye out for bait or food for the pot, these days,I may be unfaithful to the M63 and carry this Kimber,.22 LR.It weighs the same as the Smith,at 25-26 oz,has a match grade barrel, trigger and sights. The sights are also "night sights".The Smith is a good shooter with a great trigger but this has a longer sight radius and is really easy to hit with, even for an old guy.I have the same holster setup and switch the holster back and forth, between the two guns. The revolver is easier to load dispatch rounds in but, honestly, these days,I use a Death Ray,most of the time, still,I always carry a handgun, regardless. It has paid off. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69418-kimber_rimfire_and_red_squirrel.jpg)

I don't often carry a rifle when on foot checking but sometimes.I like to have it along, though.I used this, original,Armalite AR7,quite a bit.It was manufactured in the late,1960's by Armalite and shoots pretty well compared to the modern versions.I had replaced the plastic, floating stock many many years ago, with wood.Glad I did. They only offered the wood for the 1st two years. With scope, base and sling it only weighs 3lb 12 oz and will shoot less than an inch group at 50 yds. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69419-ar7_and_3_cottontails.jpg) This year,I will probably take this TacSol,.22LR.I have only had it a couple seasons but I have a lot of faith in it.It has a 2x7 scope and will shoot under an inch at 100 yds.Total weight with scope, rings and sling is 4 1/2 lbs.Not too bad to carry. It is Tactical Solution's version of the 10/22.It uses Ruger mags. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2020/11/full-2531-69423-tac_sol_.22full_pictureon_log.jpg) Another I have used and is a great shooter,is the CZ, Youth Model,.22.I just sometimes need more rounds and speed.Great little gun though and the short stock is great when the heavy clothes are on.

This is what I use. But now that I got my DEATHRAY, the SR22 stays in the truck.

I'm covetous of that wood stocked AR7 that Taxi posted. But OH MY that scope...what is that? I have an AR7 and have always thought a skeleton wire buttstock or a wood stock would improve the little rifle. After seeing that pic with the hares, I don't think I'd be happy with wire now.

After seeing that pic with the hares, I don't think I'd be happy with wire now. That scope is a neat little 4X Bushnell, vintage around 1971.It has an integral rail on the bottom. At that time,Thompson Center made a little base/mount that fit that rail.I believe that mount was designed to fit a handgun scope made by Bushnell.I am sure that type scope and mount haven't been made for many, many years.A gunsmith friend back then, recommended. the setup and installed it.The matt finished, little scope really looks like it belongs on that gun.If my memory is correct,it only weighs 4 oz.So far it is still clear and functioning.

That would make yours subsonic also.
