Just wondering for the guys using them this season what their opinion’s are on them? I just have 2 of them and they seem to be a nice trap. I mostly use Monty #3’s with heavy screen, but with the Duke 650’s I have been using polyfill under the pan. Just curious what everyone uses for a pan cover on them? Thank you

All my coyotes so far have been caught in the Duke 650's. They bed really nice and stable. Love the cast jaws, with no foot damage. So far all deep pad catches. No trap damage. I have been using polyfill.

I've been on the line with a good friend who uses them and I was duly impressed !

I got a dozen but I can't set them. It's tough getting old.

I have 2 550's and they are a good trap. With one problem is the trigger. It STINKS. From the factory, a Wolf couldn't set them off. After an hour of slow filing, they are still very inconsistent. I won't buy anything with a round dog unless I could install a decent pan and dog set-up. Duke makes ok stuff but they always find corners to cut. I'll stick with Bridger dogless or nite latch.

I think they’re ok. I have to inside lam the jaws to make them legal here in Ohio but that’s not a huge deal for me. I like their dog and pan system. I use blue furnace filter material under the pan and can’t find a reason to change. It’s light years better than poly. I’m wondering if I’m the only person who has had trouble with the levers locking in the up position. I can set an MB 650 by hand with very little problem. Sometimes I have to literally STOMP on one side of the levers (or both) to get them to break loose from the jaws. The levers should have been longer also. I think this is a glaring design flaw. There is very little room to get your hands on the levers for setting.

Noticed that also. So far like the trap still wish Cavens would come out with a similar size trap modeled like there 550

Beav, you know you can take the helper springs off and they work nicely... Since I am a live market guy I ground off the lugs and 2-coiled mine. Caught and held every coyote that stepped on the pan! Heck of a trap and I have put around 50 so far in the truck with them.

I have had no issues with pan tension with my 550 or 650's. I actually file the night latch a little farther back so I have more pan travel. I know it goes against the grain to most trappers but I dont like a hair trigger. Not sure what the pan tension is, but I just go by feel. So far all deep catches above the pad. As far as the levers locking up too tight on the jaws, that is just good lock up to me. IMO.

I may go ahead and try filing the night latch deeper like that, as I didn't even think about that. Great idea!

Yes, I prefer a heavier pan tension as well. Keeps these possum catches at a minimum and the coyote paws in deeper! Haha.

I will have to do that next year. I took the helper springs off the Duke #2s and the Duke 550s. Never had any problems holding coyotes In them when just 2 coiled.

The 650s are very easy to set with just 2-coils. Obviously they have the longer levers so you have plenty of leverage on them downward...
