Has anyone looked at stomach contents of any trapped animals? Would be interesting to hear. I know fisher are supposed to be big porcupine eaters but in PA seem to like squirrels. What can ya tell us?

Mostly only mink. A very high % of them have frog parts in there. Never hear of using frogs for bait but I don't know why not.

Never have. Generally can tell what my targets are eating before I’ve even caught them by the contents of their scat

Interesting. Maybe it’s just difficult to catch enough frogs to make any amount of bait?

Yes quite often.

Bobcat...was mostly rabbit even ears still intact must have ate the ears whole.
Mink...I found frogs parts too. Some fish scales.
Haven't tried anything else though.

I always look and see what the birds I’m hunting are eating. Especially if I’m in new territory. I haven’t done it with any trapped animal, and probably won’t. Not sure why but it doesn’t sound real appealing! I have done hundreds and hundreds of necropsy on cattle. I always look at all 4 stomachs and spot check intestines when doing one. Just don’t see myself digging around in possum! lol

First otter I ever caught had a frog in its mouth when I found him. Always educational to open the stomach. It’s a must for me and my fishing buddies to check stomachs and report back.

In red fox, I usually find lots of rabbit hair and mice, once I found a fox squirrel in one. In coyotes I usually find rabbit and deer hair.

I was under the impression if they ate it once they’ll eat it again. I save the stomach contents of my coyotes and put down a dirt hole. Caught a little of everything with it from possums to another coyote.

I have only caught a few coyotes. I was surprised by how much corn was in the stomach of a couple of them. I have opened rats to see what they eat but their stomachs are full of very finely ground food stuff and it is hard to determine what the original food source was or is.

My son watched a mink yesterday with a frog in its mouth while deer hunting. I thought frogs would be hibernating by now?

Ive open up some 12 hour dead coyotes for the liver and they were pretty ripe. I can only imagine what it would smell like to open the stomach.

I've checked coyotes and mink. Mink here have a lot of mice in them. Coyote have either nothing or you never know what. Mostly rabbits, hunks of deer hides, mice.

Just passin through

I’ve seen quite a few times where mink will dig into swamp seeps in the dead of winter. I’ve always assumed they were hunting for hibernating frogs.
